  • Performance Coils better than stock?

I am wondering if any of the after market coil packs are better than the stock ones on a 94 camaro engine. I am getting some intermittent hessitation when holding the gas steady and I am thinking one of the coil packs may be the problem. I am thinking about buying aftermarket coil packs to replace the stock ones if they were any better (i.e. increase power/ throttle response) What have you guys found? I have a 3.4 with a mild cam, Crane lifters, GM performance valve springs, and then everything else is pretty much stock.

You really can't improve on the GM parts.

It's one of the few things that GM actually did a very good job on.

Won't notice much of anything, except for premature failure if you buy Accel ones...

I don't think the MSD will help out any at all either.

I've been doing just fine on my $30 replacements from autozone.

I concur... When Ben and I were bolting the heads back on the 91 a really long time ago, we were priming the oil system with the starter before the wires were put back on, and without removing the ECM fuse (just the fuel pump relay), and the coils shot bright, hot sparks between the towers. That's what, almost 2 inches? I've never seen a spark jump that far, and from that day, I was a believer, GM DIS ignition is just fine for any street driven application.

is that really so odd? i pulled a plug wire off while running once( i know i'm a dumbass, and i paid for it later, and it hasn't happened since) and i could barely see it but i had spark clearing a foot gap (at least), but i could definitely hear it. like a really loud tapping noise when it arced. of course this is with the 14 year old DIS coilpacks on the 95 monte ls. so i do believe they work plenty well.
