  • 3.4L headwork?

ok hello everyone. I am building a 3.4l from a 95 camaro for a swap into my 90 trooper. I am trying to build it up a bit as I have big mud tires and I need some power to make life a bit less stressfull!

I have already decided to use the Comp Cams 260H which is a moderate cam but nothing extreme. Now I want to make the most of it buy getting the flow numbers up.

I have ported a few heads so far but all were SBC heads and I was being guided buy a master as to what to do. So I know I can do the job if I can just figure out where to get in there and remove material.

So I ask this has anyone found good info on the whole port job on iron 3.4l heads, as to where to smooth and remove. Or is there a place that Ports these heads that we know of, As my time is worth money.

Get an intake gasket set and match the ports to that. In the valve bowls you will find lots of work. Blend in the port runners to the valve bowls. The end 2 exhaust ports have a particularly nasty step that needs to be removed and blended in. Do not remove the hump in the floor of the intake just smooth it out.

Here is some work I recently did on my 3.2L for my Trooper. The same work was done on the intake manifold after the heads were on the block.

Thanks I knew about gasket matching but your info on the step in the bowl area is exactly what I was looking for. Do you have any pics on the bowls. Also is there anything i should do with valve guide area or just smooth then up. I have heard giving them a tear drop shape speeds up the air around it.

I did not take pics of the valve bowl. But it should be fairly clear once you are in there. Start with the ports and then you will find areas where you need to blend. Smoothing out the valve guide is a good step too. But don't cut into the actual guide where the stem sits.
