  • Block Milling

I wanted to know if milling my stock 2.8l LO block .027" was a good idea.
Reasoning behind this, raise the compression a little more. The piston deck clearance is .047", after milling, it will be .020". Would this cause any problems. If not can I also mill .010" off my heads with out any problems or is this just a stupid idea to do to the heads.
If anybody has done it or has any info would be great.
    Thanks

    -Gary

i believe that the biggest problem this will cause is that the valetrain geometry will be.........off?

don't quote me on this but if you mill the block or heads, its essentially making your pushrods longer as well, meaning you'll need new, custom-length pushrods. it might bolt together and run but it wont be "ideal".

theres other members here who know a lot more than me about the subject but that should help a little.

Thank you. The pushrods, those I forgot about, I have built way to many jap motors in my life and they don't have pushrods, so what you said makes perfect sense.

Your easier route is to get HO pistons which will solve your compression problem. Milling the deck that amount may be a little much. I got about 0.014 milled off mine. Milling is not that critical to the valvetrain since it is adjustable on the older motors. As long as you keep it within reason

so your telling me find out what car had a HO 2.8l and buy pistons for that. If that is the case that would explain why I could not find any in the aftermarket. Thanks again.

If you just order from any EFI 2.8L with iron heads it will have the 8.9:1 compression pistons. So say a 1993 S-10
