  • My senior project.

Im 16 and I have a 1988 Firebird with a 2.8l V6. For my senior project I want to turn the car into a slight sleeper. I know the V6 car only be taking so far but what I'm hoping to make out of it is about 250hp or hell I'll be happy with 200hp.

I want to do and engine swap from a 4gen with a 3.4l. Build it hybrid using gen3 60*V6 heads. Forged internals if I can find them. And possibly a turbo. I'm not looking to much into nitrous, maybe a small shot of like 50. This project isn't really going to start until the summer when I have time and money. I have about two years to reach my goal. I should be getting my drivers license next month also.

The first thing I have lined up for this car is this Sunday I'm buying a POSI rear with disk breaks and 3.42's.

Any one have other idea that could help my project along performance wise or just good car knowledge in general? I'm not new to cars or engines. My dad is a mechanic and he'll be most of my help for this project.

If someone can push an SVO turbo Mustang in the 9's, 250hp would be cake for a v6 (especially a 60*).

What kind of pistons should I be looking at for to hold some pounds of boost?
      Hypereutectic? or?

      Will a camshaft from my 2.8 fit the 3.4 from a 4gen F-body?

are we talking 250 at the wheels?

you'll get 250 at the crank with a stock 3.4 bottom end, H272 cam and a 3500 top end, add in headers and a good exhaust and you'll have a nice sleeper.

How much crank HP would I need for 250 at the wheels? Im assuming more?
Im going to the junkyard tomorrow to see what I can get head/intake wise

figer about a 20% drivetrain loss. so 312hp to the crank will be about 250hp to the wheels. if you are using a turbo that should be very easy to do on low boost (5-7psi). What is the stock compression on the new motor? Assuming about 9-9.5:1 that should be perfectly fine to make that power on stock bottom end and low boost. If you run a large cam you may want to reconsider turbo or s/c. cam profiles for turbo cams are generally fairly mild where as N/A cams are much larger (more lift/Longer Duration).

I picked up the rear, it was actually a 9bolt with 3:27s. Paid 100$ (great for a disk 9bolt!!) I'll have a little less acceleration but I'll have some more top end. Once I get some money, I need to get rotors, brake lines and the proportion valve. Then it goes in.

How do I calculate the compression of an engine?

also going to the junkyard tomorrow to see whats there I need to pick up a driver side seat belt

The real question here is: "what is your power goal and budget"?

I'm hoping to make out of it is about 250hp or hell I'll be happy with 200hp. ( in original post ) and no set budget. I know it can't be cheap and fast, so I'm willing to save and spend money for good parts.
