an so the saga continues... seems i'm going to want to go with a 3500 top end with 20 or 40 over pistons from summit.

    EDIT:

what is our wrist pin size, i'm looking at 3 links, and 2 are .906, and ine us .905, these pistons are for a camaro application correct? so figuring out the CP with these pistons and 3500 heads, in a 3400 block. i think johnny said that would be 11.56:1, with a .020, it would be 11.63:1, am i correct? and pelase answer this if someone knows, the camaro pistons have all the same characteristics as the FWD version 3400, like same skirt length, same rings? just different dome sizes right? thanks.

Yea Bob, that sounds about right on the CR because the overbore will slightly increase the compression ratio. Yes the pistons are identical in everything but the the dish in the top which is why you get the increase in compression. Run the stock 3500 head gaskets and it will all be good. More compression equals more power and loads of torque. lol

i think i got this set out here, now i just need to figure out a cam with headers, sound i start a new topic lol? i have heads from a olds. v8 that i want to chop up and build some headers from scratch, planning on getting flanges from, uhh, cant remember his name off the top of my head, but the O.D of the headers are 1.5", is that what s&s headers are? i'm gonna try and attempt equil length headers too.

guys, i dont know what to do anymore, how stong is the bottom end for the 3400? i've never imagined building up a abuse proof motor to be such a hassel. the higher the comp. the weaker the motor will be in the end when its push to the limits correct? and i would have to get custom pistons to run less than 11.56:1. i need some suggestions here. where should i go with this build. i want to make power, and reliability. but it looks like it would cost about 4000$ in parts to build something like that. am i going crazy or reading to many articles?

i'll add i'm willing to buy all the proper parts, but if someone tells me i can get a set of pistons with lower CR around 600, and have the stock bottom end hold up (but i will change all retainers, studs, rod bolts, head bolts ext.) and who makes the pistons for the cheapest with best results, the summit is best bang for the buck, but may be the wrong CR.Thanks to anyone with a answer, i've searched piston costs, and bottom end strength, but every topic says something different.

yeah anything lower than 11.5 has to be custom. you MIGHT be able to mill some camaro pistons down a little bit depending on if the company left you with more than the bare minimum thickness (i cant rember what it is tho)
