  • 96 monte carlo + 3400 swap/rebuild.

I bought a 96 monte with a blown headgasket. I wasnt sure of the motors histroy and decided to rebuild or replace it... My uncle has a 3400 with a cracked headgasket (or head) that was leaking externally. The motor does not have a upper or lower intake and is missing the acessories.

My uncle is giving me the motor for free, so I'm thinking about rebuilding this unstead of the 3100... I can get the upper and lower intake for about 50 bucks. I do not know if I should use the 3400 or the 3100 TB?

Will the 3100 accessories & brackets bolt to the 3400 without alot of hassel?

The 3400 is out of a 00 grand am gt, my car is a 96 monte carlo, what year/model of intake should I get? Are they all the same(3400)?

    Heres what I have planned..

    MACHINE SHOP:
Have the blocked checked, cleaned, freeze plugs and cam bearings replaced, cyl honed, crank polished... The heads checked/rebuilt...

I'm going reuse the cam, rods and pistons. The rings WILL be replaced. Short block will be put back together with a new oil pump, cam/rod/main bearings, timing chain, freeze plugs, new gaskets ect.

For the top end, I'm going to have the heads redone. I'm going to reuse the rockers, push rods, rocker arms, ect (providing the check out.)

I'm going to replace all the seals/gaskets (using the good intake gasket), replacing the water pump, thermostat, ect...

Anybody want to shine in here and recommend doing something different. Or answer my question about the swap? Thanks...
