how much boost do the 3.1 turbo's have stock & how much can their bottom ends handle?

  • #2
IIRC they run 7 or 8 stock for the tgp's. It's fine running 16+ with proper tune and supporting parts (IE fuel/exhaust)

16? what kind of hp would i be putting out if i bumped it up to 14-16 and did the bare mods required (also what would they be?) i assume this would be ecm & bigger injectors/better exhaust, is there anything else needed like a higher cap fuel pump or internal mods?

i heard of someone making 18psi on a stock 3.1 turbo bottom end.but he had new manifolds made and x-over pipes along witha new t3 turbo.
because i don't think that the stock t25 could push 18psi. (i could be wrong)
and a intercooler would be a good investment if they dont have them stock.
you will deff. need bigger injectors and higher flow fuel pump

14-16 is about the max you'd want to let the little t25 ramp upto.
You'd def need injectors, 2.75" or 3" exhaust (turbo back) , ideally 105 octane or alky injection, a 255 fuel pump would be a very smart, then a great tune.

If you're starting from scratch with the "tgp" build, the only thing you would really want is the exhaust manifolds and IF the crossover has been properly repaired or custom made then that too. Everything else will be ala carte' pretty much.

Hp will be dependent on all the other parts/tune factored in.

if i purchase a cam & bump up the boost-how much can i bump it up without needing bigger fp/injectors? also how much would i need to raise the boost in order to get 50 more hp? keep in mind that i intend to run this on 92 or 93 octane.

Is this using stock NA or TGP injectors? If it's stock NA injectors, then NO BOOST. If it's TGP injectors, then maybe 2 or 3 over stock specs. Injectors are not THAT expensive if you buy used. Hell I have a set of 22's that I'll let go cheap IF I can find them.

I'm building a tgp engine right now myself.
I plan to run 12-14 daily and try for about 20psi at the track on the weekend.
                  I'll be porting,using a comp 260 cam,SVT/Cobra injectors,bigger turbo and various other small things.
My goal is 350hp before a small bit of happy juice kicks in but i'll be happy with a quick daily driver.
                  Mine's going into a fiero though,not a TGP.

Check out tgpforums.com for more tgp specific info, good peoples on there.

ugh, i really don't see that T25 staying very efficient at anything above stock boost levels.

I'm helping a local guy build a TGP 3.1 for his 92 cavalier, he's going to use the stock rods and crank but i think forged pistons. The Comp 260 cam, stock manifolds but i've got extensive porting done to his heads. I forget what turbo but it's bigger than the T25. and a 3" exhaust.

He was shooting for 350 HP @ 15 PSI from what i remember.

These heads flow a lot more than stock, i still need to get flow numbers with the LIM and UIM attached though.

tgpforums.com is a stinky forum, you have to be a member in order to do a search. That being said, how does everyone using the TGP code intend to get around the 12-13 psi boost limit in the code?

A lot of the people on TGPforums aren't running more than 2 bar. The T25 is useless at those pressures, and the majority of people are running the stock size turbo.

Here's the link to when I asked, http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php/topic,5173.0.html

Basically, the thought is that if your fueling is dialed in well enough, you shouldn't have trouble exceeding the code. I don't like the idea of the computer running blind though...
