a brief list--long tube headers, 62mm TB, 11 ish CR, 3400 top-end P&P everything, under drive pulley, stock bottom-end, and the Comp 260 cam. this was in a Z24 Gen II with a 5 speed. In fact, i contacted him. here's the PM i got back:

I'm trying to figure out the whole powerband of all 3 builds. Not to mention how they would idle. I love the lopy idle. I also love very stout midrange, and don't really want to have to rev it over 6500 for max power. Any thoughts are appreciated! I know you had/have a 13.99 sec car so you must know a little something. Thanks

On a stock 3.1L the comp cam would be the best.

For a Hybrid 3.1L setup Either the Comp or the 272 would be ideal.
If your going all out and are going to run a standalone system the Schnieder cam with its huge top end power would be where its all for all out top end power. However as you stated you want great midrange and don't want to shift past 6500.

With my Comp cam Once I started getting further into the car for drag racing it became more apparent it was getting too small for what I needed. But on a Hybrid build 3.1L with that cam and 1.6:1 rockers. Ported heads and whatnot Its a great all around the city and great Mid Top end power cam. It does start to top out around 6000-6200 rpm.
But if your wanting reliability and great all around power its a decent cam. But like I say when I started getting on the ragged edge of squeazing out that 13 second pass it was clear the cam was too small for what I wished I had been running to make more power and pull further into the the 13's. The 272 would have done that for me as It would have given a bit more powerband up to the 6500 mark.

I have never run the 272 myself, I'm sure its got a great lope though as the Comp 260 had an awesome Idle characteristic to it. Lopey but not crazy slooow lope.

By the sounds of it for what you want do a Comp 260 (16-233-4) cam for a stock 3.1L, or if your planning on hybrid full out action go with the 272 from crane.

I plan on doing a hybrid with 1.6 rockers and LS6 springs maybe LS1 pending on the cam and a slightly raised compression ratio, I'm not wanting to go completely all out with it This will be my DD car so I dont want to go over the edge with it but would like a nice increase power wise.

stick with the LS6 springs I gave you. They stiffer, but the main thing, the LS1 springs will bind after so much lift. Lorenzo had LS1 springs tested and compared to LS6 springs. Just use the LS6 ones.

agreed! the LS6 springs will also allow more lift later down the road too.
