  • Recommened Exaust systems?

Sorry to bother all of you guys n gals out there in 6O degree land but I'd love to know what would be good choices for exaust systems to help my motor breath better? I would like something that flows good but without excessive resonance, I'd hate to have the thing sound like a ricer civic with a rediculous fart pipe on the back...I'm sure you've seen em too running around with mufflers on that could support a 5.7L v8 lol

99 Lumina, as shown in your Garage?

Best bang for the buck would be S&S headers (may need slight adjustments to fit bay properly), and then custom by your local exhaust shop from the headers back. 2.5" is good for the rest of the piping. As far as muffler goes, really just depends on what type of sound you want. I was always a fan of the Flowmaster 50 series, but others will recommend Magnaflow as well. And for emissions, just install a hi-flow cat after the headers (or get the setup that includes the cat with the headers).

Thanks for the advice I've seen a 2.5" high flow system on summit racing that's a direct bolt on, guess it wouldnt be a bad idea to pick that up and a muffler and get a shop to do the rest of the plumbing and stick slap the muffler on. Only if my welding skills were better...lol

that's a one peice that would bolt on to my existing down pipe..hmm how extensive would the mod to the s&S headers be to get it to fit correctly?...the completely re piped exaust sounds tempting but my only worry would be excessive down time on the car, its my DD (daily driver)

Not 100% sure what mods are needed. Hopefully someone can chime in...

for a w-body? i wouldn't think anything. those headers are for n-body (99+ grand am). there should be as much room by the firewall if not more. i have a set on my GA with pleanty of room.

Front dog bone mount needs to be notched. Clearance by the firewall heatshield thing is tight. Probably those issues, see the PCGUY 3500 thread in the performance section.

I'm thinking a 99 lumina is gonna be the same setup as a 96 grand prix.. I know the front dog bone mounts will be the same at least.

thanks for all the help guys its much appreciated and issac youre right about the lumina bay being the same as a 88-96 grand prix engine bay. What would be the best method to notch the dog bone mounts so the headers would have enough clearance? Does anyone know if these headers are a direct bolt on for the most part or would the exaust flange where it mounts to the exaust ports have to be modified too so it will bolt on and seal to the exaust correctly? sorry to be such a pest lol im just looking at all the ways to squeeze more power out of 3100 and make it abit of a sleeper car. it's fun to shame the import guys when you blow the doors off them with G.M

Scroll down to around post 14 or so and read about installing them on a W-body.

thanks a million hmmm what might be some other recommendations without doing a total rebuild from the primaries back? the zoomina (lol) is my daily driver so the least amount of downtime the better.. can't make money if i cant get to work
