  • Looking for 2000 Monte engine mods (3.4l)

    Hello everyone,

first off i will apologize if something like this has been posted before... i only have time to come read these type of these when im at work (i know great isnt it?)

Ok so i have a 2000 Monte Carlo LS with a 3.4l engine and I've been looking for just about anything i can do to the engine to get more out of... i do plan on rebuilding the engine sometime in the spring (pick up a junker and just slowly go at it) for something to do... So when i say anything, i mean anything as i will have it completly taken apart...

    Thanks!

Anything and everything you could possibly want. Really just depends on how much you want to spend. What is your background when it comes to working on engines? Would hate to lead you into a direction that you are not capable of or don't want to spend the money on.

And sorry for the late reply. Many people don't check the off topic area much, so I have moved this thread to the pushrod performance area.

          Well thanks, i appreciate that!..

Ok well ive rebuilt a Lebaron... went from bone stock 2.5l to fully loaded 2.2 intercooled turbo with a 91 Daytona VNT tranny (so auto to manual)... I think id be able to tackle just about anything mechanical... i have a friend that has little bitch hands if need a pair lol...

As far as money goes well a couple grand... about 2200-2400 to rebuild the engine... im just really wondering if theres anything that i could upgrade in the process of rebuilding her... performance internal parts? and if its not worth it then ill just hunt down a wrecked SS and turbocharge the 3.8

then turbo charge the 3400 you probley could get the same power as a 3800 at a lower boost because the head flow is better on the 3400

Well i looked around for turbo setups for the 3.4l didn't really find anything... do you guys have any sites that would have some? would the 3.8 bolt on to the 3.4? (havent really looked into that)

There is only 1 turbo kit for the LA1 3400 motor that I know of and I don't even know the name of it.

You could S/C the 3400 as well. There is two s/c kits for it, a Vortec and an Eaton, but the Eaton is way better and more reliable.

Pretty much a custom build with all the piping

yeah mostly everything about the 60*V6 is custom but if you source the right parts you can build a good set up

Is there any differences between the 3400 in an Alero and the one in Monte? found a turbo and s/c kit for the alero but nothing for the monte... which makes me wonder why not for the monte as well?

The engine bay is different, but other than that, should be similar enough.

Argiht well good to know... so basicly stop limiting my search to monte's and open it up to anything the LA1 3400 engine of the same year

Only thing to be aware of would be trans clearance. Alero/GA/Malibu uses the 4T45E which is a little smaller than the 4T60 in your monte, that is iirc. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. So with that in mind turbo mani's made for an N body may not fit your W.
Lots of mods cost lots of $$

This might be more work then i want to do... lol... but a lil research never killed anyone...

But is there alot of stuff that can be done that up the HP without any type of blower?
i was told to boring out that engine didnt make a difference (which seems odd to me)
has anyone ever come up with a stroker kit or is that just way to much work?

Like i said before... im new to the GM engines, how ever not a pro in anyways with any other brand but i can pull my weight...

how much more power are you looking to get ? a set of headers along with a good exhaust system and a ported 3500 top end kit and a cam swap should give you good power for the streets
