  • New times after 4T65E swap.

just thought i'd let those who are interested know that I got my car to the 1/8 mile track finally.

it ran ET 0.16 slower, and MPH 0.40 slower with my tranny swap. Now, the differences since the old tranny runs: weight is ~100 lbs more, there are wider tires (205 to 225), added the spare tire, and had a FULL tank of gas. i can't help but think if i changed the FDR, which would end up being 3.20:1, it would go faster. however, I still have some shift timing to sort out--when to lock TCC and what RPM to shift at, and a little ECM tuning.

    the main differences:
    -much faster and firmer shifts
-now 1st gear launches struggle to keep traction (at the track)
-better city mileage though haven't been able to just drive it yet, i get 23 MPG and that's with trying to tune in the 60-85 kPa often and several WOT tests (mainly 1-2 & some 2-3 shifts).
-ability to change just about any parameter and area that controls the tranny.

if you swap out your motor, let me know.....I want the block.

            We should meet up sometime.

The new Z06 exposes European sports cars for what they really are....overprice, underperforming snobs.

Damn... you would have been faster with the old 3 speed and those mods.

And way faster if you would have done a 5 speed swap.

              I love my left foot

like i said... i still have tuning to do. i do feel it would have been a tad faster had i set things up like i did with the 3 speed.

you'd like my block. it has 155k miles and looks new. i'm basing that off of how the head looks when you remove the oil filler cap. this car has been taken care of by a short line of caring mechanics; engine, drivetrain, and body.

get together yeah! rsisbetter is down there too. PM me.

You'll get there man, I just wanted to have a spot of fun with you.

A 3500 would turn that monster of a tranny over a lot better though.

                    i hear ya man.

the whole build cost about $3,000. the EP LSD was just over $600, controller was about $900, tranny shipped was $250 with 38k miles on it. the rest was for labor, custom work and miscellaneous parts. i figured since the 125 was going out, i might as well spend more and beef up the drivetrain. most people beef up the engine and break the drivetrain, then beef that up. if my tranny was in good shape...what i could have done with 3 grand!!!

For my .02 you just wasted your money!

My 3t40 (TH125) works perfectly, weighs less and doesn't break, even behind my 3500. And I have NOWHERE NEAR $3,000 in it even with the EP LSD and 3.73 gear set. Closer to $1200 maybe!

If someone knows what the hell they are doing the 3t40 is almost bullet-proof!

                      But it's your money.

that's right and it's what i wanted to do. who else do you know has a 4T65E in a Z24? the 125 is a tough tranny, but i didn't want to be turning 3100 rpm at 65 mph. with the 4 speed, i turn 2300 at 65 mph. besides, mine has nearly infinite adjustments and controls, and will withstand 400 ft. lbs. of torque. yeah, during my build, another person said i was wasting my money too. however i didn't want to have to be changing my gear selector 10 times just to parallel park. he has micro switches in sequence with the shifter handle. kinda ruins the auto effect.

i just have to say, i wondered who was going to tell me i wasted my money after i mentioned how much the project cost me. you know, it's getting old and irritating to do a one of a kind or rare project to have someone else step in and say how i could have done it simpler or cheaper. i've considered several options over a long period. my setup is the best compromise for what i want and how i plan on using the car. thanks for reminding me it's my money.
