I think i'll use 1 5/8 primaries. that way I have bigger pipe in place for future mods.

I did not have to grind off too much from the dogbone to get the front S&S headers to fit, the fronts were the easiest.

The rears are very close to the firewall, and they do indeed rub. I had to cut some heatshield looking material right under the firewall, and then my mechanic put some washers in to space down my subframe since it was fairly prone to vibrating on it (especially in reverse), but that is it.

If your really up to the task of making them then go for it, but I would buy a plain set of S&S headers and use your time modify/resources to make them fit better in a W-body. The bottom end of the rear headers basically needs to be heated up and bent a bit to clear the firewall some more. The S&S headers are good quality, and they will come with the gasket and flex you need.

If you make your own, your going to be up to the challenge of trying to get the front and rears to correctly mate on the side of the motor over the transmission. Mine was flared on each end with a metal piece to seal between them, and brackets to pull it all together. It is literally sealed with force from the bolts. Honestly, it would be really hard to make something like that without an array of pipe tools, and it would be really tricky to make it line up.

FYI, when you install whatever headers, do not use the studs from the manifolds! I had no idea but I made this mistake, it made my install very hard... especially since it was near impossible to get some of them in due to the way the pipe angles, it was in the way. Do yourself a huge favor and get some aftermarket (short) bolts and put some anti seize on them when installing.

Are you talking about the steel mount that attaches to the front of the engine on the left side?
Yes, that is the dog bone mount that I am talking about. The stock headers fit right behind them on the left where it curves out, but with S&S headers it sticks out too far, causing it to be in the way of the mount.

Sorry for my pictures being dead in my sticky, but here is my modified mount. I have lots of other pictures, just request what ya need to see.

More pictures, FYI you will need to also heat and modify your transmission dipstick tube. It really gets in the way, I tried to bend it around the headers and make it fit and all I did was end up making it really leak from where it goes into the transmission.

What other front header shots you want? There are some at the end of page 2.

What is the estimate on wheel HP that I'll gain from this?

                      on a bone stock motor (94 3100) I put down 124whp.

I now have cat delete and 2.5" DP.....+ headers, is it possible to see 140whp?

They are good for 3hp................ jk I think they put down 20 something on a stock 3400. Tuning will always help you make more though.

yeah, i'd have to say 20 hp. i have a set of S&S coated in my GA. only mods are PCM flash, cia, 180 stat. i noticed power gain from 3000 rpm to 6000. they added 300 rpm to my top end.

After you do headers, you REALLY need to upgrade the intake manifolds at least. Those small ports are terrible!
