so i get home from work today and bam, theres 40lb package on my doorstop, what could it be? a holset super40 hx40 turbocharger! i got SUPER lucky finding a super 40 WITH a 16cm exhaust housing, so happy about that! im gonna take it to work tomorrow, take her apart, sand blast it, polish the compressor housing, and have the turbine housing coated! shits startin to roll now!! the beer next to it is for a comparison

That thing is massive! Did it come off of a diesel truck? If/when I mess with my truck, I was going to go with a Holset HX35 which is stock on late model Dodge diesels, making it a readily available part since they like to upgrade to larger turbos and I read that the HX35 compliments the Ford 2.3 very nicely. I agree with Andy, might want to move to the quart or mini keg of beer.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

does many little beers count? lol. hx40's are off of 8.3l cummins diesels. this one has a volvo tag on it so.. hx35 is off of late 90's 2500+ diesels. after they came with a hy35. hx35's compare to gt35r's and hy35's are about 60-1's. but diesels have SLOW, and COLD moving exhausts, are made to push 30+ psi daily (very efficient), and spool fast on a gasoline engine, oh ya did i mention theyre CHEAP? theyre VERY stout turbos. the super40 will put a gt40r to shame in air flow and spool time. ive spent months upon MONTHS searching for a turbo for my setup and desires, and well the hx40 is exactly what i wanted![SIGPIC]

Nice turd!
When I first ran that turbo I took the silencer ring off. Sold the ring for 20 bucks and gained a nice turbo deezy sound. I cannot wait, few more weeks of this rain/snow BS then it's road ready.Lifting my front wheels, one jack at a time.

oh yea, first thing i did was remove that. i got her all cleaned up at work today, when i took the compressor housing off there were rebuild numbers on it, yay. was it the super hx40 or a regular? from what ive been heard, the supers are hardddd to find.[SIGPIC]

i got around to doin some things. i almost got the compressor housing mirror polished (lots of work). got the center section cleaned up and ready to paint, got the internal gate welded shut, sandblasted the turbine housing (ready for ceramic). i took my balancer, tensioner, idler pulley, plenum,and my 3500 vvt p/s puley over to a buddies and had them powdercoated silver/chrome. i took the p/s pump apart, cleaned it up, replaced the shaft seal, and painted it up. i think it all turned out awesome. thursday i get my heads and the engine goes in!!

it is a little bigger in diameter, should slow the pump down a lil.. ill weigh it. gotta remember the powdercoat might throw off my numbers a lil. but i dont care, the pulley looks 100 times better than the stupid plastic pulley for sure.[SIGPIC]

picked up the heads today! they were shaved .020 to clean them up, and bring a smaller cc. got the 5 angle valve job done, and it looks amazing! the spring perches were also cut for the proper spring install height with the ls1 shims and the stainless valve. just waiting till tomorrow to get the valve seals. i then coppercoated an 04+ headgasket. tomorrow i put the heads together, bolt them up, finish engine assy, and drop her in!
