  • Engine is in the car....4 years later...

    Hey guys,
Alot of you likely don't even know me, but 4 years ago, my car was "fast", compared to what else was going on in the 60º world.

Long story short, 7 years of abuse and my trans blew second gear. The car came off the road to be fixed, and a basic trans swap turned into a whole new world of upgrades, pain, patience and spent money.

So now the long block is assembled and along with different trans, got dropped in the car this past weekend. Still TONS of work left, including custom fabrication, but I'm just happy to get this thing back in the car again. 4 years is a long time to wait.

          Thanks guys!
There's some pics of the engine and stuff on the garage already. Take a look if you got time. http://60degreev6.com/forum/garage_v...s&id=19#bottom

I'll get pics up later of the install, though it's nothing most of us haven't seen all too many times before.

Here's a few pics. Note the "alignment tool" I had to use in a pinch.
And yes, the block looks like crap on the outside.

Looking good so far. Loving the alignment tool hah.

One question though, how did you get a Cloyers double Roller to fit on that engine? I remember something about them making that for the RWD 2.8, so did you get that one and modify the timing cover. If so, what was the machining cost for something like that? I assume they would just have to mill off a certain thickness.

Yeah, 15 Canadian winters in Ontario will do that to the firewall. They love salt around here when things get icey. It hasn't been winter driven since 2003, but the damage is already done. I should likely do something to it. Maybe someday.

Not sure about times. Low 13s would be nice, though, based on what others have already done, it should be able to be faster if the boost gets turned up. Not gonna push it until it's ready.

The Cloyes will barely fit under the cover, but yeah, it's gotta be machined. I did it myself with a grinder honestly, so not sure how much was taken off. I used a straight edge along the chain and measured everywhere the cover seals to check things. Just slowly worked away at it until it fit without rubbing. The cover is thin now, and it is one area that I worry about for longevity. But I'll deal with it when I need to.

Was it only the cover that has a problem? That shouldn't be too bad as long as its not too thin. It doesn't need to be thick though...just keep the oil in and dirt out.

good to hear from you again Franz! still going Gen II i see, and boost too? hell, in my book, running high 14s and low 90s mph--especially all Gen II is still rather fast. what cam did you have when you ran those times?

i too have waited 4 years to get the short list of bolt ons i have on the car now, minus the tranny swap. it sucks, but at least it's not still completely stock.

                              Hey Andy, thanks man!
Yeah, still with the old Gen II. Though with the port work, roller rockers and custom intake manifold, I've almost got all the disadvantages taken care of. Just don't have that roller cam.
I'm using the H260 cam still. And still in good shape.
