I've been doing ok so far with my GM set that I sent to Cryo treatment... I will know more when I take it apart, but noise is very minimal right now and it hasn't got any louder.
i left in the stock chain. had 30k on it. has about 38k or so on it now. i know i should have bought a new one, but i ran low on funds and i checked it, and it seemed alright.

how much did the cryo cost you? and did you do just the chain, or both gears, too?

      • I think the braided wiring really cleans up the engine. Just have to be sure everything is right the first time. Thanks. They would look much better if they were polished though. I was thinking about having the finned covers powder coated flat black and re-cut the faces afterwards.
We made two of each on this run but plan to make more in the near future and will be selling them individually if people want. Currently, the same cover is used on both sides of the engine.I am talking with a molder about possibly molding some valve covers from the same composite material that intakes, TB and other valve covers are made from. Even though they can mold them in various colors, they just won't have the bling of a billet part.

Has anybody ever found a set of Finned Aluminum Valve Covers that would bolt on to a 60 Degree V6?????

              • At this point, the single rollers are on hold again. When this project first started, I contacted a local chain distributor about chain recommendations. We discussed several factors including load, speed, operating conditions and crank to cam center distance and he gave me a size and type based on those requirements. I have recently been told that his recommendation will not work. I am looking for answers but don't have one at this time.

It will suck if this setup won't work since we have already made quite a few sprocket blanks. At least I haven't yet bought a bunch of potentially worthless custom length chains or paid to have the teeth cut on the sprockets.

We are extremely busy at the shop no but when things slow back down a little I will get back on this. In the meantime the early model wide stock TC setup seems to be the best option.

Thanks for the update, not what I wanted to hear but better than them being done and having issues later. Hopefully the blanks will still be able to be used and things will start rolling sooner than later.

                  • I know I'll get gob-smacked for asking this question... but has anyone with access to the kinds of skills and machine shop equipment ever considered trying to machine a groove down into a stock set of timing gears in such dimensions that the bicycle style chain used in the VIN "S" Cloyes "True" Roller Timing Set would fit and function? I know that the architecture of the stock "outer chain" is remarkably different in the various facing angles that are necessary to allow the rollers in the bike chain to transfer their energy in a more even manner... but I keep imagining this as a something that might be possible to make. Okay... my chin's out waiting for the swing...

                        • Are the sprockets stock diameter?

The reason I ask is years ago, when I was first looking into making a timing belt set up for the 660, I stumbled across some interesting cross swapping info regard the stock 660 timing chain. As it turns out the 660 timing chain was also shared with an AMC engine, unfortunatly I don't recall which AMC engine, but there weren't that many of them. Might be something to look into.

I'm interested in seeing these LZ cam bearing spacers, I have a possible line on a 3900, and would rather just do away with everything VVT, since it seems like it would be more hassle than it's worth to retain and try to get functioning.

                          • Added a new product that may be of interest to some. We have been selling complete harnesses/ECMs for swapping 60V6s into MGs and other cars. We have decided to add a DIY standalone harness to our lineup for those who would like to build their own. The harness comes partially assembled with the connectors for the engine not being installed. You would select what injectors and MAP Sensor that you are using. Injector plugs can be EV1, EV6 or Multec II and MAP sensor connectors can be old or new style. We supply all of the connectors and terminals for the engine and you trim wires to fit and crimp on the ends. It is made using GLX multi strand wire with thick wall covering and all new Delphi/Packard connectors to insure proper connection at every sensor. Complete harness with connectors is priced at $425 and includes instructions for installing connectors.

                            • I recently got my 3900 running with a 3400 cam from WOT and so far am very impressed. The cam huge by my standards with .610'' lift but it stilll idles great. I haven't gotten on it too much because I'm working out a lifter tick, not associated with the cam work, and am hoping to have it running again in the next couple days. It really seems like this cam far excedes the vvt cam even with my limited run time. The stock cam just didn't run right. I too am hoping to see this as more of an option in the future for others and wanted to say thanks for making it happen.

                              • Glad to hear you are getting close on your swap. .610" is huge especially when compared to what's stock on a 60V6. I'm running .562" @ 260 duration in my LZ9 and it has smooth idle... almost too smooth. I have high expectations for the LZ engines but wish they were a little easier to swap into older cars.
