Hi guys,I'm back on the project car after a three year break! Actually it took two years to build our new garage, then my wife thought she could ride a motorcycle and broke her leg and wrist. But she's ok now, after 8 surgerys and months of recovery.
But anyway some of you long time members will remember my project and also the moderators......(yes Brad you will get your adjustable pushrod tool back as soon as I remember where I put it!) so any way it' good to be working on the car again!!!!

Wow, glad to see you back! And here I thought that the pushrod checker would be gone forever... Can't wait to hear more updates on the project.

I can't use Photobucket because I'm using the PC at work and our firewall has it blocked....bummer.Don't have a PC at home either.
I do have a question tho about my engine, how will this setup be balanced? I don't see any balance weights on the flex plate. I'm using the Porsche flywheel that has re-machined to fit the V6. It is not balanced either.

most of these engines are internally balanced, iirc only the older Fiero and Fbody RWD ones aren't. all of the FWD ones are atleast.

I hang out on 914club.com also, and actually there are a lot of hybrids out there. How some of the guys feel is another story.
On an other note, speaking about balance.I got some advice from this site on how to build and 200hp engine and was wondering if changing pistons will affect the balance?

If they are heavier or lighter than the original pistons. The 1988 fiero engines are internally balanced.

                  I think it was Marty that came up with the formula for my 200-225hp engine.He suggested;
Crane 262 cam shaft,3100 heads(ported) and 3100 or 3400 upper/lower intakes(thanks again Brad), cast iron head pistons to give 11:1comp ratio,62mm throttle body, headers and a good ECM tune. I'm assuming that the iron head pistons will be heavier because mine are dished? Also was thinking about those cool Crane Gold Race rockers but I think that will not be in the budget. So I want to go with the GM roller tipped ones instead. Can I use the stock pushrods?

3400 heads or 2000+ 3100 head have slightly larger intake valve over the 94-99ish 3100 small ports, also their intake manifolds are larger. Go for 2000+ upper as the neck is better, or use a 3500 UIM.

WOTTECH (Store here) is coming soon with some roller rockers in higher ratio, so you could go for that.

Roller fulcrum rockers are on the 3x00 heads (except for very early ones 94-95, some 96 didnt have them but can fit them). No GM roller tipped rockers out there.

Pushrods will need to be measured with a tool to see what length you need with the cam/heads/rockers setup. You;ll also need stiffer springs for the cam.

I have 3400 LIM on my 3100, with 3500 UIM, and a 65mm LX5 TB from an olds aurora. Since I'm running the 94 heads still, they are ball/pivot rockers so I had to grind the LIM to clear them. If my heads could have fit rollers, there would have been no issue.

The heads I have I got from Brad and they are 94,so they have ball/pivot rockers. But they are ported. The UIM and the LIM are 2000/3400 which I also got from Brad.GM roller tip rockers not available? Maybe I'm going overboard with the roller tipped rockers as I'm only going to autocross this car and need low end torque, but as they say"while it's apart"

Unless you can cut notches into the heads to accept the roller rockers, you won't be able to run them. The 94 heads lack the notches. Also you will need to clearance your LIM if you go with a 3400 or 2000+ 3100 LIM as the ball/pivot will hit them unless you can get GM roller fucrum adapted on there.

                          Porsche 914/3.1

Ok,last nite looking back at the original post from 8-something-06 It was suggested I use Camero 3.1 iron head pistons to get 11:1 compression ratio. What year did the Camero have a 3.1 and iron heads? And if these pistons are heavier/lighter than my stock ones how do I get my crank re-balanced?

                            Pre-93 Camaro's (back until 89-90ish?) would have a 3.1L.
