You can use the 3100 SFI pistons to get around 9.5:1 compression without special ordering. Just have to order the H692CP Sealed Power piston 0.5mm oversize. I don't think they come in inch sizes.Franz

i do beleive that they come in a kit. not sure where theyre geting the kit from. he gets rings, pistons, bearings ect. some all in one package. so i trust what hes doing. in this area this shop has a good renown for performance engines. i really dont want to get toooo pricey but i guess if i have to drop this cash in it already i might as well right? ohh well, yes not something to cheer about but its not necessarily a bad thing. i get some more power but its still a gen2 3.1 i just wish i coulda put a 3x00 in and did this work to it. but i didint feel like doing the mount fabbing and ecu nightmare. so i still never got a really good answer for an estimated hp?!?!? i know somebody has to have a good idea of what ill be pushing. if nobody has a clue, i plan on dyno'ing once its all done and broke in. hm, oh well ill keep u posted

The ECU is far from a nightmare on a 3x00 swap. For you it is exactly the same amount of work you'll do to tune this engine, put a different chip in it. Plus that mount is already fabbed up by a couple of people.
Anyways though... I'd look into what Franz says and put some 3100 pistons in it if possible. That bump in compression would be tits with the cam and tune!

well i guess its a coulda shoulda woulda deal on this rebuild. i wasent looking for a 200+hp as long as i got out of the 17.4 range. ill be happy. yea 17.4, bad clutch. so as long as i hit a 15 or lower ill be happy, and 170hp would be my goal probly. i had a 94 gutless-cutlass with the 3100 v6 and the thing was a nightmare, always had random probs with it. but from my experience with my 2.8 and my brothers 3.1 beretta gt, you can run the shit out of them and they never really "broke" maybe something electrical or something stupid but ive never had a mechanical issue with them. now whats wrong with my 2.8? dont know. dont care. i figured if i had to pull the motor and drop cash that might not fix the problem, why not rebuild one right? well anyway, the pistons came in today, ill have the total specs on what they are and the who's they came form (manufacturer) ill post pics once i get the block here, should be next week sometime. but i do thank you all for the input and following this thread!

hello everybody. well heres the progress report. motor is out of the retta now, were stealing random parts you know. the donor motor is pretty much complete but i have some hickups.
examples: now i have to buy injectors...lame i have el-cheapo injectors in there right now, and they havent failed...yet... but one that my brother put in his 3.1 a year ago has, just last week.
so that sucks. i have pictures of a variation between the lower intake plenum just wondering what it was. (it looks like the 3.1's plenum is flat on the vertical wall ((closest to the water pump)) and the 2.8's shows the path in tubelike form.) well anyway heres a link to too many pics.

i have no idea what kind of power you should expect. i would guess 150 at the most.. only way to know for sure is at the dyno
the 3400 swap is very easy. its almost a bolt in.sigpic

...150? dude 3.1 is at least stock 140, with cam, bore .30 over and tuned chip?...i think ur sellin me short, and yea i know a 3x00 motor would have been the best for power but hey i took what i could get, (wich was an 88 beretta gt with a running 3.1 in it and more spare parts than i knew what to do with)

What realy helps out a gen 2 is headers and exhaust. Those logs don't do theise motors or the 3rd gen any good. 3*00 headers would work for this motor.
Down the road you can kick it old school and to the old 3*00 hybrid swap with aftermaket pushrods.88 Beretta GTU turbo . 90 Black ASC/McLaren TGP, awaiting 4t80. 2003 Grand AM se 3400/4t45 daily grind.
