  • How the mullet-mobile got posi...

Swapped the rear out of an '85 T/A, and also the exhaust while I was at it. The rear is a 9 bolt Borg Warner with disk brakes, the exhaust is a 3" Dynomax cat-back.

    Enjoy...

The previous owner of the T/A told me it was a Dana 40, but oh well. The 3.42 posi is better than the 3.23 open, and I got disk brakes to boot.

Took about 7hrs working by myself, with many breaks Including one that was about 1 hr long - soccer try outs for my 9yr old was today, and she would have been dissapointed if I didn't go She hung for a while today while the youg'uns were naping, then the two boys came out and watched for a bit (2 and 5 yrs old). They all love watching the car being worked on. My 3yr old girl has known what a turbo is for the last 1.5 yrs haha, tomorrow the she wants to watch whill I scavage everything else I can from the white car (she's the "turbo girl").

Now, to get spacers to run the 11" wide Drag-Lites, the 'Bird will have traction!!!

I got the T/A for the low low price of free, and it was running 11's before my friend pulled the motor and trans. I'm sandblasting a set of heads in trade for the T/A, and the T/A's old motor/trans (383ci/700r4) is going in his Vette (78 c3). Then he's giving me the old 350/th400 out of the Vette as well as part of the deal. The 350 is going in Dad's '76 Vette and his all origional motor is going in storage. This way, he can still have a numbers matching setup to compete in the "all original" class, but maybe have a couple mods (cam/springs/porting ) while staying under the radar for the judges. Anyways enough ramblin...

    Very cool pics!

That exhaust setup gives me an idea to see if I can shoe horn my hooker muffler between the gas tank and spare tire area, though I don't think it will.

Great seeing your kids interested in the car stuff.

Yeah, they are absolutely amazed. When the boys got up from the nap, all they could say was "cool" and "wow" looking at the car parts strewn about the yard

Now to get the motor finished so the posi can be tested

Yes, I'm anxious to see what your car will put down with the boost.

If the white car was running 11's, then that setup should hook up for you too!

Did you have Def Leppard blasting in the background when you were working on it?

Like I said before...Looks great. I bet your neighbors love the way your yard looks while you work on the car. All my neighbors were watching me pull my engine...they all had that "what the f**k" look on their faces.

Good job on the install. Hopefully that will get you some good traction off the line. A friend of mine did a similar swap on his 3rd gen. I believe he took his rear end from an Iroc. I think it was a 373 diff with posi. It made all the difference though.

Would you like to sell any parts off the white T/A? I'm interested in the front fender scoops. I want both of them (left & right). I'll attach a pic so you know what I'm talking about.

hmm, my 82 T/A had a 3.23 LSD read end but it looked a bit different than the one from that 85.

mine had a little tag on it too...

Sure, I've got threads on other boards, didn't think to post here, but everything I'm not using is for sale :P

Make me an offer and pay shipping (probabaly fit in the $10 flat rate box)

This is the Borg Warner, you probably had the 10 bolt. The 10 bolt is a 7.5" gear, the Borg Warner (also called the "aussie" cause it came from Holden) has 7.625" and disk brakes. I did some research after finding out what rear it was, and it's said to be stronger then the 10bolt, but parts are a little harder to find.

The ratios are a little different too, mine is a 3.45:1...

I really don't know what they are worth. I just think they would look wiked on my Fiero. How does $20+shipping sound?

Shipping shouldnt be much to Pensacola (32505).

                            Ahh, simple yet forward question.

When I'm done and satisfied with the install

We don't need cat's here, and I'm sure it will sound just fine
