  • 3100 cam choice.

Okay. Got my Hooker muffler today (happy birthday to me). Gonna have it installed very soon. I may be moving fast here but I'm trying to get all of my ducks in a row so........

Any suggestions on cams? I was reading the section on regrinds and such but for me it would probably be easiest to just buy a new one. I'm gonna take a guess that the wildest I can go without having to have the car tuned is .206 int/.210 exh at .050" lift?

Thanks in advance for the help. I never would have to been able to go this far without you guys helping me out

Can any local mechanics shop do this or will I need to take it to a specialty shop?

if you are going to tune it anyway, why wouldn't you get something more wild? cost is the same.

It's a 95.. you'll have to upgrade to the OBD2 computer/harness to be able to tune it.. (or piggyback a Megasquirt or a OBD1 ecm)

I'd go with a wot-tech grind number 1617.. it's working very well in Redbird's 3400 with ported heads. It's making around 260 crank HP on stock manifolds. It's got a nice idle as well.

you'll need LS6 valve springs atleast.. stock pushrods will work with it.

Dave, what exactly is involved in a piggyback or Megasquirt. I saw Taylor swapped to an OBDII a bit ago in his Supreme and it looked like a bear to do.

Also, is it at all possible to run a mild cam in it without tuning it so to say?

I thought I could get the cam installed at tax season for under a grand but it seems to me it is gonna cost a considerable amount more right?

I do not recommend running without the proper lifter pre-load. I would run the stage 1 cam with the custom length pushrods.

If we go by cost, I can easily make the higher stage more expensive. That isn't how I do business and it isn't how you should judge your parts.

ohhhh so OBD 1.5. makes sense now. there should be enough room for a little more cam on a stock tune, but something that you can tune would be much better.

                  His car is OBDI !!!!!!

He has the A body which means he has the ODDBALL 3100 with the removeable PROM, and weird TB/MAF combo with NO MAP!!!

Tunercat has a def for him so he CAN tune it with stock stuff.

So in a way its a bit of a paint to swap to larger port stuff (aside from clearancing rockers) cause he has to get a separate OBD2 MAF and wire it in (not that big of a deal) but also he CAN tune his 3100 which is rare!

I emailed tunercat about a week ago but I haven't heard anything back.

So I do have OBD1, huh? Well, I guess after all of these walls with this car, this may be a blessing.
