  • Muffler Choice? Opinions wanted.

So, after installing the sway bars I'm thinking of putting a muffler on the Olds. The problem is I have NO IDEA which mufflers sound best on the 3100 series V6.

I would like it sound like this

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s05fX...eature=related

Any ideas? Would I feel any gain in the slightest or not?

After tackling the sway bars I feel much more confident about trying the intake soon. Still trying to convince the wife to let me spend the dough though.

You know, I now realize when I said "Till death do us part" I was actually setting a goal!!!

Hooker Aerochamber... still has that chambered sound but a little deeper, and they don't drone inside the car like a Flowmaster does...

they also flow like 100 more CFM than a Flowmaster 40

this is a stock 3400 swapped Sunbird 5 speed on the dyno... with an Aerochamber Crossflow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnbgjWN3t98

he had a hi-flow cat at the time, it sounds even better now w/o the cat.

Hmm... I really like the sound of that Hooker. Was that single or dual exhaust? Not that it would make a difference in sound, just curious.

Unfortunately, due to the tight space I think the duals are going to be impossible

The only thing I can think of is putting duals exiting to the side before the rear tires but that may look

I loved my dynomax's that I had. They were just too damn loud for me.

No muffs thats what I am running.
This is what it sounds like. I put 18" pipe in place of the mufflers and put the stock tips back on.

I love the sound. I had some Thrush turbo's that I was going to replace my old mufflers with but I ended up liking the sound of no muffs so I took them back and saved my self 50$.

I also took the single muffler off my friends 2001 3100 Malibu and its not as loud as my car but still sounds pretty good.

So either my dual or single it sounds pretty good.

God Superdave, your car sounds nice!!! I always thought I would be saving up to buy another Mustang someday, but man, if you ever were to sell you're car I would be seriously interested. That is just wicked sounding.

I'm assuming since you recommended them, your car is equipped with Hookers, right?

I didn't think I would go this deep into my Cutlass but a cam might be in the future. I would assume it would cost me about $700 bucks installed like I paid to have one put into my 86 four cylinder Stang.

From what I am seeing on the web it appears I would have to go with a universal size Hooker muffler. Does anyone happen to know the size for a Ciera or should I just go out and measure the H, W, and L and opening?

                          Cheers!

                            Hooker Aero Chambers FTW.

My old car back in '03, '93 GPSE 2.5 full exhaust with catalyst and Hooker Aero Chambers. The car was refitted with a 3400, cammed and high compression, 3500 upper intake with a 70 mm TB, and 2.5 inch downpipe. Operating range from 2000-7200 RPM. The 4T60E I rebuilt to my personal spec which included but not limited to a 3.73 FDR(geared way too short for that engine) and a Phantom Grip LSD. Last Vid 1-2 Shift is fast and controlled.
