I am definitely down for aftermarket valves on the 3900! I've been looking into it, but if i can just order a set without having to fill out a custom order sheet then praise to the high heavens!!!!!!!!

thats what you use duct tape for...geez. and Isaac why didnt you switch to the newer alum heads??? like the 3100s at least? actually on the LS engines, they dont use guideplates when you put the scorpion rockers on because
they have pedestals that go on the roller trunion and aparently didnt need them and didnt move...so idk if you would need guide plates, may keep them for piece of mind though...

haha, not the valvetrain guru...just more like i have lots of time to ponder...lol
I know your lift is a little higher, but ur also lower cr...meaning you may have more room for it. IIRC ben is testing the 1.7/1.8 combo, showing nice sim comparisons, meaning the 1.8 intake 1.7 ext or vice versa and it would provide a nice gain. but i think that would be on NA engines. on yours i think the laws are written a little differently. I believe that on an FI engine as long as your valvetrain can support it and your heads can flow enough CFM under FI pressure, then you should go for as much gross lift as you can. I would just run the 1.7s and go from there. if you want you can go 1.8, but being so easy to change them, i would really try the 1.7 first.

geteck - since you seem to be the valvetrain guru, and you know my setup, would any of these be beneficial to me and what would you reccomend if so.......

Well, even the old hardened ball/pivot 3100 pushrods are the same length as the newer 3400/etc ones so that shouldn't be an issue.

Hmm, never thought of grinding the tabs off the bottom, would that work with normal 3x00 roller rockers? As long as I kept the push rod guides? Would be nice to at least have roller fulcrum.
Should work fine, as long as you have the correct pushrods.

well as an option you can get the rockers and then grind the tabs off the bottom...or you can have a notch machined on the heads

I got all excited then realized I don't have notches for them. Damn original motor!! LOL

I always thought the non-roller tip rockers increase the ratio as lift increases (usually by .2 or so) making the stock rockers a ~1.62:1 ratio

I'm interested in 1.7 or 1.8's, too bad I just bought set or Gold knock-offs from Summit (1.6), so I'll be wanting them in the future

i know you can do that...i was just throwing that in there...you can just go to a local auto parts store and get some sealed power and get some HT 2148 lifters...those are the LT/Ls style lifters
