If those tolerances are so expensive, then how come my stock pistons were cheaper(i know different material but still...) and I didnt have to buy and bring a piston in before having the block done?

I guess it depends on where you get pistons and where you bring your block.

No, it depends on the quality of the machinist. Any good machinist will ask for the pistons before boring the block.

Stock pistons are massed produced and have larger tolerances than small batch forged pistons. That, material and cast/forged production, are the big reasons why they are cheaper. The tolerances don't have to be so exacting for a regular street engine. But for performance, you want those specs on the money per piston/bore. Haven't you ever heard of blueprinting an engine? It's exact what this is about.

yea i did it on silvolites too ! but i was running 11.0:1 under boost and 15 degrees timing @10psi. i have my old pistons and rods if you want cheap cheap but there for a .030 3.1

No thanks chevette boy, I'm going with forged. They'll be more forgiving.

What are the advantages of running 11:1 compression with boost? I think dropping the compression and upping boost is the way to go now. Lower peak cylinder pressures - greater average cylinder pressures. By the way, What kinda jet fuel were you using???
