  • Bad news for me.

Well, like I said I was going to, I went to my mechanics shop today and he looked over the exhaust.

It seems that the downpipe would be kind of difficult to fabricate since it's not perfectly circular and it snakes it's way from the right side of the engine over the trans and then down. ARRRRGGG!!!!

Anyway if I went with a 2.5" exhaust all the way back from and including the cat he said I would only gain maybe 2-3 hp if I was lucky. Is this true or is it a very low estimate?

I thought about just doing a performance muffler myself. What do yo guys think?

just tell him it is your money to blow and you want to blow it. Tell him to do it. It CAN be done, and the exhaust by itself really will not do too much, but 2-3 HP.... I think you will get a little more than that.

What it boils down too, is no matter what you do to the intake, it will be limited by the EXHAUST. The exhaust is your most major restriction in your car.

I had a 2.5 downpipe made for my Cutlass Supreme. If you go to a COMPETENT SHOP, then it can be done. I had one made for my Cutlass Supreme, but when I moved back to texas, I tried to get one made for my Grand Prix, and the shop said it can't be done. I KNOW it can be done seeing I have done it before.

So yours was the same as mine going over the trans? Well at least it can be done. Thanks.

Over the trans is the cross over. You need a new DOWNPIPE not all new manifolds... And yes, going from 1.5" downpipe to 2.5" is going to make a big difference on a v6 lol

Ah. I see. So they didn't know what they were looking at. That's kind of scary.

One thing is for sure. There is no way to do dual exhuast tips. That kind of sucks but yeah well.

Then I'll have it done. I really want to do the UIM & LIM swap next.

If anyone could please, please, please put a list together of what I need and where to buy these parts I would greatly appreciate it.

I will buy everything I can from Ben and get the rest as I can.

Remember, I have an oddball 3100 with the MAF/TB/UIM combo.

Thanks to everyone for all of the help. God I want to get this rolling.

you can go to a different MAF setup. It will just need to be wired up.

They might have been talking about the right thing. In a way, the downpipe DOES go over the trans. It goes over the FINAL DRIVE area of the trans.

Why can't you run dual exhaust? I thought I had seen a few ciera's with dual exhaust.

I will do a PAINT DRAWING of 3 different exhaust systems. One of them might work

It seems to be too cramped on the driver's side to put a muffler there to me.

That and the spare tire and fuel tank really take up a good amount of room.

I'll try and take a picture of it this weekend to see if anyone has any other ideas.
