  • 3.4l camero valvetrain upgrade

couldnt really find what i was looking for when i searched. i am looking for a cam/pushrods possibly springs for a 94 3.4 camaro. he wants a mild perf cam but wants to keep some mpg...i know here we go again. but i was looking on the comp site and noticed that the 260h shows a good cam for the 2.8 with lopey idle, but what would it do in a 3.4...or would you recommend the 252h. it is an auto car if that helps any. i saw alot of the 3.1 cams on the crane site, but didnt know if anyone had proven them on a 3.4 or not, or if they were the same as teh comp. also would he need to upgrade the springs to regular stock or some better ones from crane/comp, he has somewhere like 180xxx miles on it.

Yes the cams you are looking at are for 2.8L 3.1L and 3.4L engine. The Crane 260 Cam is a little nicer than the COMP cam. Neither will cause a lope at idle. They are probably about the most popular street cams for daily driving. You will need New springs no matter what. You don't need new pushrods but I would recommend a set of roller rockers.

There is one problem with the Camaro and that is the fact that it uses a cam sensor. So you may want to look into a regrind. Since the aftermarket cams do not have provisions for this sensor. They cost less than a new cam kit yet will accomplish the same goal. Remember to get new lifters though.

yah sucks that it isnt a roller...maybe a regrind would be better. ill look into melling and see what they have for a stocker and go from there. prob follow cranes specs. i think to keep costs down he will want to keep with stock rockers, and of course lifters, and springs yah. ill see what crane recommends or go with comp? crane is kinda running behind on their springs and alot of stuff lately. he could use the roller tip rocker and be good with a minimum amount of money spent right...stock is a 1.5 on those isnt it or is it 1.52....

The 3.4 cam requires the SFI timing lobe, make sure you specify when ordering.

If you are going to get rockers step right up to the 1.6 Ratio. Comp sells an economical set of roller tip ones that fit the factory studs.

yah im going to call up melling and see what they have for a stock replacement. that is year specific, that way itll all work then. then just send it off and have it ground. should i use the straight springs or go with the beehive on them? do you think the Z28 springs would work from the LT1? if so scoggin has them for like $26 for a set

do you think crane has some that are available, or will i just have to get a solid stock cam and go from there...

                  EDIT:

Now i get the full story, it a 95...not a 94, but i dont think that make much diff...just the fact that now he has the crappy obd 1.5 pcm right

actually now that i think about it, melling makes a perf cam and lifter kit for the 3.4, im pretty sure, see working at 2 parts places does have its advantages

You can get a regrind from a stock cam as much as a Comp 260h . I got one from Delta a while back for $100 including new lifters.
