i got a 95 grand am gt with a L82 3.1L 3100 v6. Vin #m.......what can i do to pull some good power?? i had a aftermarket air filter(fake k&n cone style filter)......but after reading a post about the stock intake bein more torquey-i might go back to the stock box with a real k&n filter. but what are my options for quick, easy, and noticable power increase?? i dont wana lean towards a 3400 head swap or 3400 UIM and LIM unless its ablsolutly neccessary. thank you for any help provided. i know you all have prolly seen this question asked umpteen times.....just please bear with me and any help will be appriciated. thanx again

Just about anything you do that increases top-end HP will decrease low-end torque somewhat without using power-adders (super/turbo-charging, nitrous) or increasing compression. The easiest route for a little more power without digging into the motor is to fabricate a cold-air intake and a free-flowing 2.5" exhaust system from the manifold -> back. You can also try and find an underdrive crank pulley. Getting a throttle body from a 3400 (52mm -> 56mm) wouldn't be terribly hard or expensive either for a small boost in airflow.
Being a 95, I'd also try and regain power lost over the years/miles. Carbon deposits in the intakes, gunk buildup in the oil system, old o2 sensors and worn sparkplugs (avoid bosch plugs) can slow you down.Last edited by Azrael; 07-19-2008, 11:50 AM.1995 Grand Am SE

Aside from new downpipe (manifold back) 2.5" exhaust the intake swaps are the next thing to do. 95 rockers will not clear the big lower intakes though unless you grind on the intakes or have notches in the heads to swap to roller rockers.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)
