There is enough interchangeability of pistons, cranks, and cylinder heads to make all sorts of combinations using stock parts between the more efficient 60 deg engine to make the 3800 unnecessary;
pistons between the 3.6DOHC & non VVT 3500
cranks between all the 60 degrees including the destroked steel crank VVT 3500 3"
LS1 forged pistons off the shelf for the VVT blocks. Several different compression heights and stronger rod options to fit in place of the ~5.8" stock rods, they're not 5.9". A little machine work is necessary for the rod and crank to match up but the pistons have the same bore and are floating to make the swap much more practical.
Offset grind the 2.25" crank pins and you can create a monster.

this thread can be closed-upon finding out that the 3500 you guys have been talking about is the exact bore & stroke combination that im looking for coupled with the 60* & the vvt-the 3500 is exactly the engine ive been looking for-too bad i wont have the money to buy one for a long time-thanks guys
