  • Dual exhaust sound.

I'm thinking of having duals (cat included) put on my Cutlass Ciera.

I'm wondering what it's going to sound like. I'm looking for a low, muscle-car like rumble, but if it's going to sound like a$$ I'm not gonna do it.

Anyone have any input on what cat/muffler combos to use or what it may sound like?

    true duals?

if so then you'll want to put in an X pipe, it sounds much better with one. I've ran mine both ways now.. at WOT without the X it was ungodly loud and at part throttle under load it sounded like a lawn mower.

With the X pipe it still has a nice deep tone at idle and WOT, cruse RPM's sound more like a V6.

Here it is without the X pipe.. the engine is deffenetly not stock though, lol

I'll work on getting an X pipe video this weekend, there are several people bugging me about it.

Can true duals be put on my car, Superdave?

I thought I would be forced to go with a Y-pipe but true duals would be even better. The guys at the shop are gonna probably have some serious fabricating to do. I was underneath it today and I have no idea how it'll all fit under there, but someone has had to have done it to an A-Body somewhere.

BTW, I love the sound of your car!

        Thanks, lol

If you have the room just go with a single 2.25" system and a Crossflow F-Body style muffler.. the Crossflow Hooker Aerochamber sounds mean on the V6.

"redbird" has one on his 3400 swapped Sunbird, it sounds so damn good.. lol

I've done Y pipes to 2 mufflers in a J body, not sure how hard it would be in an A body though. My last 2 setups were all done with mandrel bends and lots of beer in the garage.

Yeah, I was talking to Ben and he suggested going with the single also. The dual part was just for looks. If the single works just as well or better and is less expensive that's the way I'll go.

if you can fit it under there and still not be able to see the muffler you could use a 80 series or crossflow like the camaro style mufflers, it gives the look of duals without actually being duals.

thats what im using but only cause its the way the bumpers designed with the two cutouts for the factory tips. from the back you cant see the muffler.

If you have the shop take the downpipe off, and then cut off the pipe from the flange, and weld a new pipe (2.25, or 2.5" whatever you decide on. 2.5" is best for future mods) you'll gain power because there is an inner tube inside that downpipe which is barely 1.5"!!

Yeah, I thought I saw something mentioning that on another post. That is insanely restrictive! That's like blowing through a straw.

Thanks man! I'll have the shop let me know if that can be done or not. I remember that exhaust on the camaro's. It kind of reminds me of the dual pipe exhaust on my dad's 72 beetle

Well if you want duals all the way back youre going to have to get different exhaust manifolds... custom or ones from a 3500 dual exhaust....

Cause we have a cross over that connects both banks and exits from the rear bank as one pipe......

I think for the sake of money I'll just go with the single exhaust or maybe see if the shop can do what geldartb did with his car.
