  • 19# injectors

i pulled my fuel rail off 2day to change the worn out fPR with a new adjustable one, and found 2 of the injectors are leaking/rusted out, i have a set of 19# mustange 5.0 injectors, would these be usable if i lowered the fuel pressure to even it out?

i have a stock 2.8l fiero engine atm, but plan on boosting it soon.

I'm not sure what the stock injectors are but i know the 5.0 injectors flow 22# at our fuel pressure. a lot of the TGP guys use those injectors cause they flow the same rate as there stock ones (22#)

ouch... i didnt even think to check that the stock mustang pressure was. i think that might mean i have to turn it down way 2 low... something like 25lbs :/

oh well, ill just put these away for when i get my turbo, and ill run some 3.1l injectors for now.

You can use 21# injectors in stock 3100 applications without upsetting the PCM too much... But i'm not sure about the 2.8s in the fieros. If you want to try the 21#, there are some for sale.

You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

then theres the guy I know who argues it's not the lbs per hour but the duty cycle of the injector

              it's both..

a 19lb injector at 70% duty cycle is going to flow more than a 16lb injector at 70%

Duty cycle is dependant on the VE tables and other constants in the ECM. if the ECM is calibrated for 16lb injectors then using anything else is going to cause issues. Weather it be rich or lean it won't run propperly till the ECM gets re-tuned.

If you don't have the stuff to mess with programming them use stock replacements, worry about the larger injectors for boost when you cross that road.
