  • Custom DP....need 3100 DP Pic please. URGENT

I Am Wanting A Bigger Dp before i do a full exhaust. a local shop quoted over $200 to do it. it might be worth it, but I'm not paying that much. As many of you know, i do all of my own work. so, I'm piecing together some bends that i'll need. i can get some 2.5" pre-bent mandrel pipe locally for cheap. 2 180* and 2 90* for $50. not bad at all. and it will be more than enough to do the job. my dad has a cold cutoff saw i can use to cut the angles and lengths i need. does anyone have an extra 3100 Dp Laying around i can use as a mock up or at least take some measurements for me? i might have enough pipe to do an extra Dp if i do my first one right.

Does anyone have any close up pics of a 3100 DP or maybe just pics of the back of a 3100 motor w/ the DP still on?

I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to connect the new pipe and such. Thanks.

That seems to be a good price. Would do almost all the cat-back bends for my car I think.

Ya, I was amazed by the price.....I "might" just do my own full exhaust if I can get it that cheap.....

I might be able to crawl under my car or jack it up and get some shots of the dp installed on my car, unfortunately the only dp I have is the one attached. I know ZZP has pictures of their downpipes just to give you an idea of what it'll probably look like.

meh, I think I got it figured out....the DP donut us cast iron...can be hard to weld, but someone has already welded a custom SS DP to it...so I'll figure it out....

This is an interior shot of the 1996 3100 downpipe. I can get a bunch more pics the next time I go to my mothers. I just don't know when that will be.

Taylor, what is your take on the double pipe?.....why is it like that?...that 1.5" ID is freaking horrible.....

I just need pics of the flange and such....just wanted to see how it was made and where I'm going to be welding on......

I've talked to a few guys already w/ custom 3x00 DP's....I think I got it figured out...

a side profile of the DP would be sweet....along w/ a measuring tape next to it so I know how long it is.

The pipe is doubled up to aid in catalyst light off. thats odd my shop used to charge me $40 to make those pipes at 2.5" and I had a bunch of those made..but that was years ago.

You migt want to consider witching to the '97+ 3100 rear maniolfd and down peipe friom a lumina or montecarlo. much better design and eiser to deal with.

The double walled pipe is for sound reduction.

the double wall pipe is also for HEAT REDUCTION. Notice that the 3100 cars have less of a HEAT SHIELD down there than the older cars.

Going to the newer downpipe is a LOT easier to deal with too. I can put on and remove the downpipe from the TOP of the car instead of under it.

the front manifold and crossover is the same. The only difference is the rear manifold and the downpipe. I think the EGR pipe is also a little different, but I am not 100% sure one that.
