how much abuse can they handle? (like rev's and HP)

im wondering if i should go with the sbc rods and grind them down or just use new stock rods for my 3.4/3500 supercharged hybrid

Use stock rods. Unless you plan on serious competition or a lot more than 400hp at more than 7000RPM. They only thing the rods wont handle is detonation but a better rod that may handle it will just cause the next component to break.
