  • how much trouble for 3100/3400heads on 2.8?

i finaly got a new fiero $500 for 86 gt fastback 4speed in fairly good condition...

how much trouble would it be to put some 3100/3400 top end on the old 2.8?(i needs a valve job, why not just upgrade right?)

and does anyone have an ecu prom for this setup?

im eventualy gona do a full motor buildup, but till then. just something to get me by.

and what would be a better choice for the 2.8? the 3100 or 3400?(or are they the same like the 2.8/3.4?)

Need to change the pistons to get the right compression, so it's kind of a big deal. Unless you want 11:1, which some people do...

        That'd be higher than 11:1.....

You'd need to use FWD 2.8 pistons. And then follow the hybrid guide for the most part at www.domesticcrew.com (it's on there, look in the FAQ).

Then need the ECM re-wire to run the 7730 or whatever it is that has DIS I think there is a write up on fiero.nl. And then tune it.

3400 is good, and any 3100 after 2000+ is same top end as 3400. The 2000+ 3400 UIM flows a little better. Some 99 3100 were the same as 3400 top end though. But for the most part 99 and older 3100 was small port intakes, and smaller intake valve. 94-95 and some 96 3100 do not have roller rockers.

12.5:1 compression if you use the thicker FWD headgaskets..

          That would perform very well

12.5, is that with the rwd or fwd pistons?
and anyone know if a prom out there to run this? or would i be better off with a megasquirt piggyback?

12.5 with your current pistons, the 3400 heads and 3100 headgaskets (.060" thick)

you'd have to convert the car to DIS by using a Cavalier/Beretta 3.1 engine harness and computer but yes, there are several chips out there that could atleast get it running. Tuning would be in order though to get the most out of it.

Also, i forget if the Fiero 2.8's have a crankshaft trigger or not.. if not then you'll have to find or make an external one.

yea, the fiero has a crank triger, atleast i have a crank possition sensor listed, so it should have it lol...

and ive read up on the ecu swaps, im prettysure i can do the ecu swap and the dis with just moded the old harness, and not replacing the whole thing, i would just need to add in a knock sensor, for some reason fiero's dont have them.

do i need custom pushrods for the 3x00 topend swap?

yah, you'll need slightly longer ones. if you are using the stock cam there are some generic measurements from other peoples setups out there..

I'm not sure if wot-tech will make them but if not then go to www.pushrods.net and call in your order, they're around $100 or so. I got mine done there and they looked great.

I've been told that pushrods from a Gen. 2 engine are the correct length. I hope that is the case, because that's what I'm getting.

i guess i should order a cam too... h272 sounds like a fun choice....

someone said they have chips out for this kinda setup? can someone point me to where to get one?

No, those are still Gen. 1 iron heads. Gen. 2 are the early aluminum heads.
