  • engine build

so, i havent got my new fiero yet, but ive started building an engine for it... lol

    so far i have a full 3500 top-end

but i still cant decide what bottom end to go with...

i like the old cast 3.4 idea for comression, and not needing to modify mounts, but the 3400/3500 for the oil squirters...

could i use the 3500 with the 3.4l pistons?

and does the old SBC rods still work w/ the 3500?

or should i just go stock sized pistons with a turbo...

    TOO MANY CHOICES!!!! AHHHHHH

I'm not 100% as I am not up to speed on the pushrod specifics, but I don't thing 3.4l pistons are large enough to fit in a 3500 bore correctly.

the 3400 dosen't have oil squirters.. just the 3500.

for ease of install i'd just use a 3.4 Camaro bottom end with a H272 or custom ground cam with your 3500 top end. it'll make great power.

3400 and 3500 have different bores.. same stroke so the pistons are different..

      3500 rods are 5.9" VS the 3400's 5.7" rods..

if you are going turbo i'd just do the whole 3500 swap though...

hrm, i like the sound of "great power" without having turbo's

any idea roughly howmuch "great power" we are talking? :P

"with great power comes great responsibility"

I'm pretty sure the ls6 springs are the ones you want...

Forget the rockers. The 3500 ones are fine. Save your money. 3500 is roller fulcrum and 1.6.

No need for the SBC rods if you are staying N/A. You can run 3.4 camaro pistons and 3500 heads for 11something compression.

well, i dont plan on STAYING n/a

i think i might bottle feed my baby...

or if i get brave, ill force feed her, and change the pistons to a lower C.R

thats why i wana go w/ the forged pistons, take some abuse, mighteven get coated forged, depens how my budget looks at the time, and getting parts wholesale is always nice too

                  ok so revised parts list
                  94 camaro 3.4 block
                  05 3500 HEADS
                  05 3500 MANIFOLDS
2.8 fiero timing cover and water pump
                  double roller chain

                  Crane PowerMax H272-2 #523941

                  ls6 springs, ls1 shims

                  stock crank
                  sbc rods
                  forged pistons(maybe hypernumatic?)
                  stock rockers

and a small turbo? maybe at like 6-8psi? how much can the stock 3.4l pistons handle?
id like to get a non-built version up for testing and such, then build the stonger version and swap into it when the base setup goes boom :P
