I never did that, I was just trying to get back to where it was. I sort of thought like you, it should be such a small difference, what could it hurt. Boy was I wrong. This is a character flaw on my part, never leave well enough alone. It was running great until I put them them on and I can't get it back to where it was, not even now. It runs and idles all right(not good), but now it's got a surge, at part throttle. I want to get into the regulator on the Holley but it has a soldered on piece of brass covering the regulator screw(I think). Holley said it was an allen screw but didn't tell me how or where to get to it. Oh, what vacuum lines do you plug when adjusting the ECM or setting the timing? It says to check the decal in front of radiator but mine says nothing in regards to that.

Remove all the vacuum lines except the map sensor. Plug all the open ports and run the truck. See if there is an improvement.

      Let us know what happens.

I did that and there was no significant difference. I'm going to get a compression gauge and see if I've burnt a valve during this fiasco. How fast will a valve burn if it's out of adjustment? This has hardly any miles on it, test miles after every attempt to fix it. It really makes me sick to think I did this for an attempt at such a small gain. Thanks for the help.

Well if you did not add enough preload nothing would happen. If you added way too much you may have bent a valve or pushrod.

I did bend a push rod, one slipped out from under the roller rocker and spit back through the injecter. Shut down immediatedly and had a heck of time getting the push rod out and it was bent. But I replaced it and moved on to the same problem.
To install the Holley TBI you have to cut off the 4 wires coming out of the original TBI and splice to the original wires. With butt connectors. I have moved them around thinking that maybe one was loose and not connecting but that didn't have any results. At idle I can see fuel coming out of the right injector but can't see any coming out of the left. If I stick my finger under it I can feel a small stream of fuel. Compression test--#1- 165, #2-190, #3-170, #4-185, #5-170, #6-170. The valve that stuck open was #5.

Well I would look at that injector issue. You should easily see fuel coming from both injectors.

I'll take the wires off the left injector and see what happens. I appreciate your sticking with me on this.

Well, it appears I have a blown intake gasket between 3 and 5. Both have good compression but won't fire at low RPM. The tip off was spraying carb cleaner in the pcv hole and having the rpms run up and the idle smooth out. This was caused, as far as I can figure, when the push rod slipped off the roller rocker and jammed the valve on 5 open causing a backfire ultimately
blowing a hole in the gasket. No coolant coming out.http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40419 post #4

Well at least you are getting closer. Now that you have to redo the intake you can put the good rockers on while you do it.

The problem was a blown intake gasket. The friend I had repair it said that the existing gaskets had been cut, that's why when it backfired it blew out the gasket. The machinist I use assembled the engine and installed the original gaskets. I was going to go after him for cutting the gaskets, the Fel-Pro gaskets say "do not cut" on them. The ones I gave the the machinist were GM gaskets. So apparently if you have the rockers and push rods adjusted and installed you can't put the gaskets on w/o cutting or removing the rockers and readjusting everything.
So I was reading my "Hanes" Book on S10's, chapter 2 Part D section 4 to see what the book says. "The new gaskets will have to be cut so they can be reinstalled behind the pushrods". So much for going after the machinist for cutting the gaskets. My advice, to anyone attempting a manifold removal to bite the bullet and loosen the rockers and pull the pushrods THEN install the gaskets. You could have a very expensive, hard to figure problem like I did otherwise.

                        Case Closed.

Yea that is a very dumb move. It allows the gasket to move around too much. But at least you found it and now your truck should run better than ever.
