  • Head gasket bore diameters?

If anyone has any used (or new?) 3.4l/3400 head gaskets around that they can measure the inside diameter of the bore rings on and post the results I'd appreciate it.

When I used the old gaskets from a camaro motor as a guide to clean up the chambers on a pair of 3400 heads I'm using I assumed that they were the right size for the stock bore (92mm). Now that I've measured them I see they're 94.5mm. In order to seal properly I'm going to need gaskets at least 93mm. I'd assume that most gaskets are going to be fine, but working off assumptions hasn't been going that well for me lately so if I can get some measurements it would give me a little piece-of-mind before I order gaskets.

After I get some bearings I'm going to measure my piston-to-deck unclearence and if it's much under .020 I might shave down the tops of my pistons and use a .040 gasket instead of a .060 (I'm using 3400 pistons). So measurements from both gaskets would be helpful. Delco? Fel-pro? others? What's available?

genII 3.1 have a gasket bore of 3.69 and comp thickness of .060, the older 3.4 camaro has the 3.75 gasket bore with compressed thickness of .040, and the 3400 has the 3.75 gasket bore with comp gasket thickness of .060. you can find more info by looking at the CR calculator. those measurments are fairly accurate.

Finally got my pistons in and it turns out I've got bigger problems. First thing I noticed is that my pistons don't stick out of the bores at all, they actually stop below the deck. After measuring I discovered that the piston tops aren't even flat. Most are down the bore .008-.010 and out .003-.004 from one end of the pin to the other, but I've got one that's dead even with the deck on one side and .010 down the bore on the other.

I'm definately not happy. Looks like I'll have to get ahold of someone over at Speed-Pro and do some bitching.
