That was a good write up on the synthetic oil life. Was kind of curious to see how royal purple would do since that's what most racers around here use... But oh well. If you want to go a long time between oil changes, 7k+ miles, just use (good brand name) synthetic oil, change the filter, and make sure you top it off. Still not worth the extra $$$ to add another filter... in my opinion.

The reason, in my opinion, that the oil always looked terrible on the ones I changed was because the customers never topped them off and they were at least 1 quart low. Some of the more worse ones didn't even read on the stick... Probably should have thought about that part and added it in my pervious post... So I stand corrected.

I've noticed since I replaced the timing chain cover I no longer loose as much oil as I did before. It was 1/3 of a quart every 3-4k but now it's not even 1/6 or whatever. And my oil pan is dripping like a mofo too even! LOL

A mechanic I know was changing the oil in a 3800 buick, and it was nasty. He filled it up with fresh clear oil, and then checked the level and it was JET BLACK already... yes it was that dirty that when he put in fresh oil it turned all the oil instantly to coal... LOL the inside of that motor must be terrible!! They probably change the oil once a year LOL

Yeah, topping off the oil is always a good idea. Gives more oil for contaminants to live in so the oil isn't as concentrated with crap.
