  • 3.1 Questions

    So i am going to get my hands on a free 3.1. I have a few questions.
    1. Can I use 3500 heads, UIM, and LIM on the 3.1 block?
    2. I have a comp 260 grind cam. Would there be any issue? I plan to upgrade the springs and rockers.
    3. On that note what is a good upgrade over the stock 3500 springs and rockers?

    1. No, the combustion chamber is too large
    2. No...
    3. LS6 or LS1 springs should work fine for the Comp 260 cam

      Ok now that i know about the heads. Could i use the 3400 heads with a 3500 lim? i know the 3500 uim works with the 3400 but not sure about the lim.

          no, the 3500 LIM is alot different then the 3400...


          you'd have to use the 3400 heads and LIM and then 3500 UIM for a good combo.

          you'd use the 3.1 headgaskets

              Ok so i am trying to put together a parts list. Here is what i have so far.
              3500 Uim and TB
              3400 LIM and Heads
              3.1 head gaskets
              What else?
              I assume i will need custom length pushrods?

                yes youll need coustom pushrods. youll need a different tb cable when going from 3.1 to 3400. and probably the hard heater core hose (goes from water pump to under tb) from a newer car. (got mine from a 95 lumina with no tb heater) btw, tell me how the 260 grind is. considering this for one of my future mods

                  the 3500 does not have a normal throttle body that you will want to use. The 3500 is drive by wire. It is an electronic throttle body. Ben sells an adapter to use the normal 3100/3400 throttle bodies, or you can also buy a larger 62mm or 65mm throttle body from him.

                  You will need a 3100 throttle cable from a w-body.
