TBH, I have never had problems unbolting any exhaust on any of the 60v6's. Never had stud 1 break or anything. Now Fords.... unless you have a torch handy, forget it. But yeah, GM's exhaust studs/nuts have always worked out great for me without having to heat them up.

I have a problem I can't get to the bottom of concerning rockers. I put a set of CompCams 1.52 rockers on my hybrid 3.1 (see signature) and it has had a serious idle problem since. I've checked for vacuum leaks, reset the the IAC, replaced the IAC, checked the TPS voltage and still it won't idle right and it will surge at part throttle and idle way up to 2000 intermittently, all since I changed the rockers. I also readjusted the rockers. I am of the assumption that with my cam profile and what little addition to the lift the rockers may or may not have created that it's making the ECM go ape-shit. I'm at the end of my rope, ideas please??? (204-214@.050, 270-280 adv., lift-.420, .443, 107-117 centers). It ran fine before the installation of the rockers with one problem during installation,a push rod slipped off a rocker and bent causing the valve to stick open and backfire. It only ran like this for 20 seconds before I shut it down.

Not that you want to do this, but have you thought about swapping back to the old rockers and seeing if the issue is still there? I just find it hard to believe that going from (I'm assuming) 1.5 to 1.6 ratio is going to cause the ECM that many issues.

why would you change to a smaller ratio and go with the roller tips instead of staying with the stock 1.6 ratio and roller fulcrums?

                maybe you bent a pushrod.

Actually it's 1.5 to 1.5. The next thing is to switch back as you said. Today I put on a different TPS and reset it to .51. Things seem better. How long does it take for the ECM to "learn" the new settings? Thanks for the reply.

I've broken two of them... On two different engines pulling the rear manifold off. Exact same spot, both 95' 3100 engines. The top left one cylinder #5, my guess is because of the location with the cross-over. Gets the heat from 2, 4, 6 and 5. But they both broke with it extruding, so was no big deal to pull them out.

Looking at a 95 grand am 3100, how the hell do you get the bolt off the heatshield that is right behind the trans dipstick tube? Do you have to take the dipstick out?!
