  • Lifters?

Hey guys i have a GM Performance Parts race cam, it's a hydraulic flat tappet cam and i was told i need to use flat tappet lifters. My friend told me that i could use flat tappet lifters out of a 93 firebird with the 3.4HO V6, is this true or could anybody point me in the direction where i could get a good set.

    Thanks

Did you change your valve springs ???

If not, I don't see why you could not use those lifters.

If you change your springs then you will need something different....

I have the springs and retainers that they recommend for it and it's going in my 3.4 block which is out of a 2001 Impala.
My car originally came with a 2.8Lmpfi but if anybody would like the part number it's P/N12363220 i'm told it's and off road cam which gave me a smurk so i bought it.

Yes you can use OEM lifters. In fact they are very good lifters. Better than a lot of the after market stuff that is made in China or other cheep labor countries.

But remember they have to be NEW lifters you can never re-use flat tappet lifters unless they go back on the same cam on the same lobe.

they are made by Crane cams and sold by GM..

stock lifters would be fine for this application.

I'm more worried about these springs/retainers that they recommended. and more-so why you'd downgrade to a flat tappet cam in a gen3 roller block... You have MUCH better options these days.. That setup you bought was for the 3.4 iron head block.. lol

Yeah the 3400 impala is a roller hydrualic cam motor.... Not sure if you can use the old gen1 & gen2 tappet cams in there?

Not sure what he'd do for pushrods, probably end up being custom length.. and he'd have to use a gen2 timing set.. eew...

the stock 3x00 cam is like .437 lift @ valve, the one you bought is .455in/.484ex with about stock advertised duration, hardly a performance cam at all.. I'd sell it ASAP and pick up a real performance cam. Honestly, you might actually lose power switching to that other cam.

the stage 1 or 2 roller cam in the WOT-Tech store would provide some serious gains..

Might be close to stock advertised duration but I bet duration over .050 is a lot more. Which means a more aggressive ramp and more power. Stock cams usually have a conservative ramp in in order to make them quiet and also there is the emissions issue.

                            Isn't that the 262?

EDIT: That actually looks more like a 272, can't remember the specs exactly for Crane.

                            Comp's 260 is 212*/212* .440/.440

Either way, it's not that bad of a street/strip cam, but the roller would be a much better decision for profile * but * you still have the dreaded Gen3 pin :P
