  • Engine Output thoughts

I have a 94 grand prix, the engine is a 2000 3400 stock except for milzy stage 1 cam with LS-1 springs. It has SS headers, 2.5" exhaust all the way, and FFP underdrive pulley. The crude tuning is done with aeromotive afpr, usind a wideband to adjust. (obd 1.5)

    has factory trans and gearing.

On motor alone without nitrous i am only able to squeeze mid to high 15's out of this thing. Do you guys think this seems slow for what it is? I run roughly at sea level (detroit)..

just shoot me some input, thanks

you need more than an afpr to tune it.

yeah that seems slow, look for obvious problems, like weight ( subs, water jugs, spare tire etc)
but other than that, a cam isnt going to change your car from a 16 second car to a 12 second car. i think the next steps should be to get everything ported and polished, then tune it. work on tb size etc.

i dont see a huge problem, other than its a heavy car

completely agree with you, i know fuel pressure tuning is very crude at best, i was at least kinda hoping for bottom 15's this year..

Your car is slightly heavier than mine but for all the mods you have (3400, headers, 2.5", UDP, cam) and being at sea level you should be faster than that. I ran 16.0 stock and I'm sure I'm at least high if not mid 15's now with the intake swap and that's the only real mod done.

Tune. You need to be able to fine tune. Your mods are good for way more power than you are putting down. OBDII swap and DHP is the best be for you next. Besides not much else you can bolt on anyways right now other than changing cam and heads, port work etc.

yeah you deff need to tune. Your cam is bigger than mine, and your running headers. I know the exhaust alone on my car with the 3100 started to lean it out a little bit. I think youve past the point of being able to "get away with it" on OBD1.5.

Your car is roughly about the same weight mine is, and I ran 16.6---stock.

so it sounds like everyones opinion seems to be to do a 0bd 2 swap and tune the hell out of it.. Im just afraid of computer tuning it and not getting much improvement.

People get improvement over just tuning a stock vehicle...

Don't fear tuning.. I used to.... I've since made peace with the tuning gods and we drink beer together frequently.

OBD2 swap seems to be your best option, there are alot of things you can do to maximize your tune.
