I think it would look 10X better IF you used mandrel bent exhaust and charge pipes. You'd be surprised on what the differences accumulate up to.

Props to the idea and thought, just redesign it a little.

looks good.. but are you 100% sure that's a 3900 block? pictures were posted that prove that the iron heads won't bolt to that block a while back..

looks more like a LX9 3500 to me.. any pics of the engine out of the car?

O.K. ... damn, I hoped no one figured this out.

This block "fell off" a roush truck and I ended up with it, I have cool friends.

It has no production numbers that we could find.

It did run a 3.1L crank stock, but the bore diameter was confusing to us.

The pistons from a 3.4 rwd block will "bounce" in the bores of this thing, meaning it has a bigger bore than the 3.4.
The cam was a roller "stock", just like the other fwd rollers.

We turned down the back flange of a cloyes double roller so it would work with the stock "cam walk" eliminator and elongated the positioning tab slot to fit the roller shaft.

I am still wondering what this motor really is, a 35,36,or 3900, the bore seems to match 3900 specs, but could be a 3600 possibly.

It was bored anyways, so who knows what it is now.

I will state it has the biggest bore of any 60v6 I ever saw to this point.

The iron heads lined right up though and we noticed no alignment issues.

The "stock" pistons did sit above deck hieght by a good 1/8 of an inch...

If any of you have any Ideas as to what this block really is, let me know.

The only #'s on this block were ,and don't quote me here, because these were very crapy embosed digits on the back "china wall" but they were...
ZL8 ... I don't even know if this is an actual production casting or if this block was a prototype.

But either way, its bore smokes the 3.4L and the iron heads work....

So instead of looking like a moron and posting this engine displacement as "I have no clue what it is" I chose to list it as a 3900, even though it is probably bigger than that now....who know's.

And no I never thought to keep track of the original machining specs we used, we just speced the bore, bored it 30 over and ordered slugs with the pin to deck hieght and bore diameter we wanted, and this was 4 years ago, so I really don't remember.
I work on alot of custom crap and my brain has chose to start purging accumulated knowledge for the sake of sanity.... : )

And what the hell is wrong with "ricers" ??? .... yeesh.

I have built alot of 4 banging crap too, to me an engine is an engine and a car is a car....
The imports do look sweet with some of the body kits out there..

Check out my cardomain site and look at my old nitrous injected escort GT, with mazda 1.8 in it, with the n.o.s. it ran about mid 12's ...

I beat an 05 automatic vette, that was stock, by about 1.5 cars...not bad for a "ricer" ...... lol.

All good questions so far guys, I am liking the response at this site so far.
I have seen a few sweet engines here as well.....

A question for the opp's here... what is wrong with this site ????
I have to refresh pages all the time and re-log in sometimes without having logged out at all.
It does some other crazy crap following internal site links.... Hmmmm?

Oh well.... I'm hopefull you will figure it out .

Bye the way, mandrel bending the pipes was an option, but I like the "ricer" pie notched look of the system.
While I know mandrels would flow better, the "pie notches" wotk better than a "bent" pipe since the internal diameter does not change, so they are not as good as mandrel, but better than bent.... but I think it looks sweet with the notching.
The one bend fromthe top turbo over the lower turbo could not have been done with a mandrel, the diameter or radius was too qwick, so it kind of headed me down the notch road anyways..

Years from now the whole system will be fabbed of stainless and probably mandrel bent.
This thing is still an infant ..... I'm worring about its teen years already.

I drove a '94 Escort GT back in the day. It was my brother's car, very sporty. I smashed it up pretty bad. If the car ends up on it's side, you were probably going too fast.

I also dont think its a 3900 block though...

                Thank you g_u_not.
You guys are probably right about the block, but like I said I have no real clue what it is.
It should be retardedly fast though, I'm estimating about 550 solid h.p.
My friends think I am underestimating it.... they feel just between the 200 N.O.S. shot and the turbos I should have at least 400 h.p. minus the engine ... which is probly between 250 and 300hp on its own...but who knows?
I like to pesimistic about these things, that way If it runs way better or makes more power than that I am happy.

Still if it is only 500 h.p. tops, in this little ass car with a stick it should be really fast...

I have plans for a twin turbo northstar If this little 6 takes a dump, I just went with this engine because its basically what came in the car, and when I smoke the big block a$$holes around here with it I can say..." you just got your a$$ handed to you by a little ass v-6"..lmao.

Thats the real reason I build smaller engines for my self anyways, just to laugh when I kill v-8's with them, even though I have built 1500 h.p. big blocks for other people, I feel this "shows off" what I can do with small little engines, and demonstrates what I can do with a v-8... " If I can make this 2.3 run 10's imagine what I can do with your 454 ci " ... its my pick up line man .... lmao.

I love the look of your cav.... what does it run?

Since you stated that all this work was done 4 years ago, its not a 3900. The 3900 did not come out until 2006, therefore was not available 4 years ago. The 3500 came out in 2004, so there is a good chance that is what it is. The 3500 has a 94mm bore, versus the 3.4L's 92mm bore. Probably the easier way to check is to look for the "C" casting mark on the outside of the block (http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthre...=3500+pictures).

It's gotta be a non-vvt 3500 LX9. Those had the roush plates on them too. The VVT 3900 and 3500 share the same block and heads, but the 3900 has more stroke and a variable intake. If you had one of those you'd have VVT to deal with as well.

The LX9 non-vvt 3500 is more closely related to the 3100,3400, etc engines, and that is why you are able to bolt up the iron heads. The 3500 LX9 makes 200hp stock, but with those gen1 iron heads (yuk!) and intake manifold you will be restricting power a lot. Probably around 170hp N/A. Now you'll be throwing a lot of boost and nitrous at it though so that will help, if you can keep the ping down with race fuel. Aluminum heads are better in regards to resisting pinging though. We don't know the limit of aluminum heads as no one that is boosted has had issues with them yet.

BTW Check out this Fiero with a 3900 and twin turbo and 6spd manual that fits under the hood.

No offense but with all the stuff sticking out of the deck lid and those 2 fart cannons it looks a bit silly. Kind of distracts from the nice look of the GT IMO.

I don't have any issues with the message board here... not sure what you are talking about?

                        Here are some questions:

Are you running the stock grind cam?
What did you do about the different crank trigger (it's 54x or something instead of 7x)?
Have you fired up the engine yet?

Lot's of us with big cams and strong springs stretch the timing chain and want to run the double roller but it won't really work with the gen3 engines, but you got it working. More details and pics would be great if you have them.

He's using a RWD cover, therefore he shouldn't have the clearance issues that the FWD cover has with the double roller.

It could also be just a 3400 or 3100 block..

a pic of the block would answer all questions though..
