  • 4t65e HD

I have heard rumars latly. Is it true that the "4t65e HD" trans. work on our engines? I thought they were only for the 3800s. It would be intense to run one of these on a 3400.

3800's run 4t60e's well on the earlier 96 non supercharged versions they did, so yes a 65e hd will bolt up, but good luck running it... you need a trans controller, or do a harness and ECM swap since they are fully electronic(pressure and shift time and such), where the 60e is still vac modulated.

What all would be required to make it work on a 3X00. And is it that much better then the 4T60E?? What are the differences

give me a 3.29 diff and my 4t60e will have a 3.69FDR... thats easy...

As far as making it work, you need a controller or do a harness swap to a car that had that trans... that may be more of a pain, but 60degree has a trans controller but its pricey. other than that, you would have to piece together axles, using HD inner CV joints so they fit the splines on the diff and axle shaft, since just a HD axle for a specific car may be too long compared to yours, other than that I think most everything else is the same.

Screw that it doesnt seem worth the gain. What can be done to "beef" up our trans?

And another question. I dont know sh*t about auto-trans. What is a stall converter. I was told by several I will need to get a different one with my cam swap. How do you put it in where is it ect.

use 65e hd parts in it

Check out the Performance 4t60e thread, Jeff from EP listed the 65e parts you can interchange into our transmissions.

Stall converter is the torque converter itself, it just means that it will slip up to a higher RPM, so when you step on the gas the motor will rev higher before you begin to move, allowing the engine to get up into a usable RPM range since typically down low with a fat cam they are useless and fall on themselfs. I'm currently running a 3K stall Yank converter. I'm very happy with it so far.

Where would you find the different stall converters at? would somewhere like NAPA carry them, and does i need to be specific to fit our flywheels
