  • 3500 Headers

Is there anyone on this board that has fabricated their own 3500/3400 headers. I had a pair of TOGS and never should have sold them but S & S wants $550.00 uncoated and from what I have heard the Pacesetters are crap........There are a bunch of fabricaters on this forum.....has anyone taken this on?

What size primaries did you use,Dave?

I'm going to be making some more headers soon (production), but they are not 3500-specific (or long tubes)

whoring my headers again huh Jon? lol

Actually. There is a guy on the Beretta board that is currently working on headers. Not sure that they will be equal length though. He was going to try making them fit more then one car but im willing to bet if they fit the 3x00 auto L-bodies they will fit the other since were alittle more compact then the rest

What kind of transmission are you using and have you tried the non electric transaxle from the 4.9 caddi which can handle more torque. I've built a few myself and it's not hard if you follow the manual an pay attention to detail as well as use your camera to take pictures for reference. Stay within the clearances and be very careful to vaseline up the pump seals before installing the pump or use the proper tool to install the pump seals if they are the type that have to be compressed. That's the only mistake I made when building my 700 R4 that went behind my 383 in an IROC.

The little ATSG manuals about 50 pgs long have lots of clear instructions and information on gear ratios and converter stall speeds so you can setup a 3.33 with a 2700 stall or a more attractive 3.06 final drive with 2700 stall and have performance and gas mileage together and if you really want it to sip gas setup a 2.73 ratio.

Personally I don't think I'll ever do another auto with the 6 spd option. Then again there is that new 6 spd semi automatic which if they could get it to shift faster with the tip tronic option is something to consider.

He is using a 4t60-e. Stock FDR in L body is 2.97 or 2.93 depending on year.

Im running a 3.29 FDR now. Ive been inside of a Chysler 41te before but I havent had the chance to tear into my burnt up 4t60e. Any stock rebuild for it wont be good enough. The current trans has alittle over 21k on it (17k at the time of install) and its already seems to be slipping ontop of the no 3rd gear issue. Gas milage wont be an issue soon I hope as Im rebuilding a truck for a new daily so the car will sit till weekends anyway but I wont be going crazy gearing

Wow that low of miles and trouble? Hmm. So the solenoid replacement didn't help? I wonder if the valve body is giving you problems, just with the age of the seals too.

Then look into the electric version of the 4.9L transmission they should be stronger than the V6 trannies. I recall one modification made on the old 3 speed being an upgrade to a Ford band which was wider and only required having the attachment ends swapped in order to use. The guy that built my transmissions before I started doing it myself showed me the areas to modify in my instruction book to increase line pressure and improve shift quality. You maybe better off shopping around for a deal on an electric transmission controller for stand alone ability allowing use of other trannies.

Some Fiero owners take the weight hit for their high output automatic swaps and use the 4T80E with near 400 lb/ft capacity. I've done the fresh rebuild to slipping in no time automatic behind a turbo V6 before. It's no fun having to swap it out in no time or get use to fun up to 2nd gear only.
