Ok someone please correct me if I am wrong here...the top end (heads, lim, uim) from a 3500 are a driect swap into a 3400.

    1. What year 3400s will it be a direct swap to?
    2. Do have to redo any sensors to do it?
    3. Could it be applied to a 3400 swap into a Beretta Z26
    4. What do you have to do to/with the computer in these swaps
    5. What the heck is a plenum

    6. What year 3400 engines will use my stock wiring harness in my 1996 Beretta Z26
    7. How do you identify the different years of 3400
    8. Are certain years of 3400s "better" for any reason
    9. What kind of computer tuning needs done for a 3400 swap with cams, high comp pistions and port and polished top end (possibly 3500 top end)

    1. dunno
    2. I know the MAP sensor, and throttle body.
    3. oh, si, si (oh, yes, yes)
    4. depends on what you are looking to do, and transmission you use.
    5. the plenum is the upper intake manifold (the part that says 3100 SFI, or 3400 SFI, or the big square thing on the top of the engine that the throttle body is attached too).

    6. you can use a stock 3100 harness on the 3400 easily. It is preferred to do that because there is less risk of needing to modify something drastically.
    7. look at the VIN number, or look at the edge of the lower intake manifold. It is usually stamped with the last 2 digits of the year (99, 00).
    8. newer ones got larger valves in the heads. Not really certain years, but older and newer basically.
9 I can't help too much with that one. It depends on what your needs are.

ALL 3400's have the same size valves.

What year is your car? I guess it's a beretta?

Doh. I hate being sick I can't think at all!

          1) any 3400 will bolt on 3500 heads.
          2) If using the 3500 plenum, the 3500 map can be used with the wiring pigtail for it. I can't think of any sensors you need to re-use.
          3) Yes, look at 3400_modified here or on bstuff.com He has a 3400 in his car with 3500 top end.
          4) Since you have a 96, you can get a DHP and tune your computer to fully take advantage of the engine swap and mods
          5) plenum = upper intake manifold
          6) any, you might have to splice injector harness so that you can use whatever injectors you will be going with. You'll need bigger if going with 3400 with a 3500 top end.
          7) already answered above
Newer are better as less miles. Other than that since you are changing to a 3500 top end, it doesn't matter.
          9) Get a DHP (not sure if HP tuners have been figured out yet on our cars) used somewhere (no longer sold) and you tune the computer yourself. That's the best way. You can use a 97 van ECM which has more tables opened up and more memory and tweak that as well with the DHP.

I will be using the stock trans on the car that was on the 3100. and i am looking to make a strip car out of it to toy around with on weekends but also to use as a daily driver in the summer. And all of the 3400s can be used on the 3100 harness. Correct??

And IssacHayes: What size injectors would be a good to use in this case? and would i have to do a fuel pump swap for the injectors to work properly. And how do you tune the computers? Do you use a system like Megasquirt or the stand alone put out by Apexi. And has anyone done computer tuning on this site that could talk me through it when i get to that point??
