You need to ask for 3400 headers, asking for headers for a Lumina will turn up nothing as no one makes them specifically for our engine bay.

You could try Milzy at www.milzymotorsports.com and he may be able to make a set that specifically fits, but they are going to cost much more than the others.

The stock exhaust is already 2 1/4, so making another exhaust the same size is pointless, go for the 2 1/2 no question.

So I Shall Go With 2 1/2 Including Downpipe And My Set Of Flowmasters. As For The Headers...The 3.4L Engine It's Almost The Same As The 3.1L One So I Shouldn't Have Much Problems...

        Another Question...
-About The Intake Manifolds...Should I Go With Ported Ones Or Do The 3.4L Top Swap That Milzy Sells???Either One I Get It's Going To Be Ported.
-What Else Can I Do? What Bolt-ons Are Missing?

Well...The 3.1L SFI Engine It's The Most Reliable Engine Chevrolet Has Ever Built (Personal Opinion), Very Limited I Know, But, This Engine Can Produce Lots Of Torque...Which I Love The Most! This Engine Can Blow Past A 3.4L In 1st And 2nd Gear And With Two Or Three Things This Engine Can Beat A 3.4L Anyday...Sure They Are Not As Popular As The 3.4L DOCH And The 3.8L One...And With A Supercharger? Hmm Out Of The Picture But I Have Seen Some 3.1L Powered Vehicles In Very Low Times... Just To Say Some Things About It... HEHEH

The top swap that Milzy sells is actually the same as buying the ported intake manifolds from here, he just includes the gaskets as well (although the store here has them as an option).

Both are really almost exactly the same price. However, I would personally recommend getting them from the store here. WOT-TECH's quality looks to be much better than Milzy (I have heard the same as well), they also have flow bench tests (I have never seen one for Milzy) and WOT-TECH also paints and cleans up the manifolds really nicely.

If you want to do some more things, there are a few options:

Provided you do a complete top swap (3400 heads and manifolds), while you have the engine apart you could also put in a cam, which would require better springs and possibly custom pushrods I believe. You could also get a bigger throttle body, the 65MM one from TCE would work and if you get ported manifolds they have an option for the bigger opening.

I Noticed You Have A LTZ Right? I Believe Your Bumper And My Lumina's Bumper It's Almost the Same Am I Right ??? Because I Plan To Make Something Interesting And I Noticed That The Lumina LTZ And Monte Carlo Both Have Sightly Longer Front Bumpers Correct Me If I'm Wrong And About The Cam...That Would Be Hard Since Almost Nobody Here Works With My Car...All I Do Is Overseas!!! But I'll Start With Headers...Downpipe And All Tubing To 2 1/2...I'm Keeping My Set Of Flowmasters Since I Love The Sound...HEHEHE Then I Would Have To Upgrade Suspension, Brakes & Tires...For The Suspension I Have In Mind 2 Sets Of Struts From Gabriel They Cost Me $230.00 As For The Brakes I Plan To Make It Rotors In The Back Since I Have Drums Which Will Cost Me Around $325.00...Then I'll Check How Much Are The Rotors...I Have EBC Pads Up Front And Need To Rebuild My Calipers...Then The Tires...But Since I'm Getting Some Extra Money As Soon As Sunday I Can Work That. Also I'm Going To go To A Machine Shop Because I Think I Can Get A Better Price On Headers Since Shipping To Puerto Rico Is Soooo Damn High. Anyways He's Going To Be The First Lumina Who Kicks Ass In Here Since Puerto Rico Is Full Of Tuners Tomorow I'll Go Do The Pipe And Tubes HEHEHE

Actually, I don't have an LTZ, its a base. If I had a '97 I could pass it as an LTZ as some of them came with 3100, but the option never came out until '97. The bumpers are close but the base bumper is much more rounded, the LTZ/Z34 sticks out more. The base bumper also has a grill on the front, the LTZ/Z34 does not. It also lacks the chrome trim.

I have some pictures of both to compare with:

The rear bumpers are basically exactly the same, the only difference is the rear lacks the chrome trim on the LTZ/Z34. I'm just going to paint the chrome white on mine to match the rest of it. I did swap for the rear panel though, if you would like to do that. It either needs holes made in the trunk lid, or you need to cut of the top plastic tabs.

Looking good! Take good care of it.

I don't know a lot about the Mustang, though I know that they are a dime a dozen around here and are fairly easy to modify. I have seen GM V6s kick the crap out of Mustangs before though. If you get decent performance out of the 3100 you could probably beat any of those V8 Mustangs, hell you could possibly beat the V8 Mustang stock for stock with the 3100 (I've heard it done but never seen it).

Its really just picking which you like best and which you would rather do and possibly factor in cost unless you don't care. Ultimately up to you.

If you want my personal opinion though, don't go with the Mustang. They are like Honda Civics, everyone has one. That is why I like modding my car, because basically no one touches them ever, and I like having something pretty unique as opposed to the norm. Would I do it again, probably not, but I'm going to have a great car when I am finished (I just need to figure out how to get a manual tranny in it).

I'd like to point out if you take good care of these cars they will run forever, I have 265000KMs on mine (161000miles...ish) and it is still running strong. I also know a guy with a 3100 powered Monte with 400000KMs (248000miles). So keep that in mind when choosing and take a look at reliability (although this can be improved or go out the window with modding depending on the steps you take). Gas mileage may be something important as well, I'm not sure what the Stang gets.

It all depends on your tastes though, do you want something that probably no one is going to have but requires a bit more work and possibly a bit more money? Or do you want something that is easy to mod but a lot of people have? At the very least, test drive the Mustang and see if you like it, and make sure it is in good working order.

The Lumina does have good options for modding:
                      - Strut Tower Bars
                      - Coilovers
                      - Bigger Sway Bars
                      - Lowering Kits
                      - Body Kits (although not many)
                      - Multiple Engine swaps
                      - Engine Mods
etc...I think you get the point.

Goodluck with the decision, and let me know either way, I do have some ideas of things you can do with your car depending on what you want. Again PM me with anything you may need specifically aimed at the Lumina and don't be afraid to ask anything, hopefully I can answer it.

3400 = bored out 3100, with large intake valves (slightly) and way larger intake manifolds.

My 3100 has a 3400 lower intake on it, and a 3500 upper intake on it.

It Depends...I'm Not Going To Sell My Lumina First Of All...I Don't Wanna Swap The Engine Cause I Think The 3100 It's The Best Of All The Engines...True, Some Are Better/Faster But Still I Believe On What He Can Take...I Know What You Are Saying, My Lumina It's One Of a Kind Here, No One In Here Has A Lumina To Race And Look Good...Once I Did Race A V6 Mustang With Only The Flowmasters I Won And Also A 2005 V8 He Won For Like Two Cars Anyways I Need Another Car Just In Case My Lumina Has To Sit At Home...What Could I Get? Isaac..Then How Come It's Possible That My Lumina Can Beat Any 3400??? I Believe It's My Engine...Maybe It's Possesed!!!!!

You are thinking of a 3.4DOHC, NOT a 3400. A 3400 is basically the same as the 3100 except with a larger bore.

The 3.4 DOHC should spank the 3100 though, at least I think it should?

                              Just to remove the confusion:

The 3.4 Dual Overhead Cam was offered as a performance engine from roughly 1990 (I think) to 1997 depending on the vehicle. It makes 215HP and 220Tq (roughly, depends on the year) at higher RPMS. Its a much taller engine and takes up more of the engine bay.

The 3100/3400 Pushrods are sisters engines and look almost exactly the same minus the 3400SFI on the Upper Manifold (or the engine cover in vans).

The 3100 makes 160-175hp and 180-190tq depending on the year.

                              The 3400 makes 180hp and 200tq with .3L more than the 3100.

Hopefully this will clear up confusion with the engine, lastly just take a gander at some pictures kicking around and you will quickly see the difference in the look of the 3.4LDOHC vs the 3X00. Just keep in mine when we refer to the DOHC we use 3.4L, if we are referring to the pushrods it goes by 3X00.

If you knew this already then I'm just blowing hot air, but I hope this helps you out.

Edit: V6 Stangs you should usually be able to beat stock for stock, they are slower. The V8s are hit or miss, those depend on the driver. I still say test drive the Mustang and see if you like it and go from there. Hell if you want to buy the Stang as a DD and mod the Lumina (which would probably be completely backward from the norm). Weigh your options and costs and which car you like better. If you ever find leather seats for the Lumina though you'll never get rid of it

Ok Let Me Make Myself Clear...My Friend Has A 1992 Lumina Z34 With The DOHC Engine...I Can Beat It... And Then A Malibu Had This 3400 And I Could Beat Him Too But The DOHC It's Sightly Stronger...I Happen To Run With Both Of Them Stock...Anyways

I'm Not Selling My Lumina...I Tested The Stang And It Runs Pretty Darn Strong... And Love The Interiors They Are Neat, Anyways, Maybe I'll Leave The Stang Stock And Mod My Lumina HEHEHE Which It's The Opposite Of The Normal...Well...If I Do I'll Show You Some Pictures...Anyways You Wanna See My Car Running?
