  • Feels like something's missing.

O.k. guys, I recently got my 3.2 in the truck and running. The combo is the rotating assembly from ARI engines with ARI stage 3 cam 94 Camaro heads ported/polished, chambers polished, milled .015, and a new valve job. I'm running newer LS6 springs with Comp retainers and 10* locks. It's got the Edelbrock Torquer intake with a 450 mechanical secondary Holley carb. It's pretty responsive, sounds nasty and runs good. I just feel like there is something missing and I have this lingering suspicion that it's the gear ratio.

With the cam and the heads it really wants to pull hard through the mid range but I robbed the tach out of it a few years ago while the truck was sitting and I don't know where it's really giving up at. I feel like it's pulling to atleast 6000. I thought that I read that 82 S-10 that originally had the Isuzu 4 cylinder and 4 speed were geared 3.23. Can anyone verify this, my rpo codes are all gone and I'm gonna change the fluid in the rear here in a few weeks myself but I was just curious for now. I've got a set of 3.73's at home that may have to make their way in the diff b/c it just feels like it lacks a lil pick up coming into the next gear after the shift.

opinions welcome, oh, it's got the Edelbrock headers !cat! and 2.5" pipe with a 40 series Flow.

the 3.73's will give you more pick up--no pun intended, but you'll still have that lack of pick up power in the next gear, though it will spend less time in that weak spot. you'd have to change the tranny gear ratios to eliminate that, or change the intake or cam to give a flatter torque curve. without a tack, it's hard to know what you need to change or tune for.

Yeah, i'd like to upgrade to a 5 speed, that would be nice, maybe I will make a point to do it, I can prolly win the wifey over with the ole 5gears is better for gas mileage bit, ya know. Yeah, I'm well aware that the 3.73's will pick it up as well as some more fine tuning that I really haven't had the chance to do yet.
