Check to make sure the A/C compressor bolts up. if not you'll need to swap oil pans then you'll be golden. I forget which year they changed the bolt boss for the A/C compressor on the pan.

I was looking at the motor on a 2000 Grand Am and noticed a thin metal pipe coming out of the cylinder head by eack spark plug. Each one joined to one pipe that was going across the front of the head. I don't no what it was, nor do I remember where it went to as I didn't think much of it at the time, but I noticed I didn't have it on my 2003 and the heads don't have the holes for it. I have no idea what it is or if it applies to your 2001. I just thought I'd mention it.

from what ive heard all 2000 motors came with the air setup on them.
every year 2000 car ive seen has that crap on it.
find a motor without it if you can.

Wow, that seems expensive for a newer motor with that high of miles. I know engine prices have gone up recently, but I remember I picked up my 3400 which was a year old and had ~20k on it for $350. I have heard of other getting engines with less than 10k on them for under $500.
