  • 272 gen ll questions

as if last week i wiped a lobe off of my original cam in my 3.2 gen ll motor, for now i'm going to stick another cam in it, till i get my 3x00 motor done(it's my daily car) I went with the 272 cam from crane, my question is.. I have a set of pre-roller 3100 1.6 rocker arms i was going to stick on, the heads are ported and gasket matched, will i benefit from the added lift of the 1.6's??
    Thanks for your help,

the 272 is not a boost cam.. it's got too much overlap.

But yah, the 1.6's will give you a bit more lift.. just hope your piston to valve clearance is good enough, and you've got enough valve spring.

thanks dave, i was hoping you'd chime in... well since the car was stolen some time ago and stripped of all turbo parts ect, this is now an N/A car, springs im not worried about(there big gm springs that were overkill b/c of the turbo), piston clearance is really the only other thing, I just was curious if they'd help at all.
      Thanks,

well the cam is in and running pretty well, my tune has the idle up to around 1000 rpm's in drive so its pretty tame sounding, haven't had much of a chance to drive it but it seem's to rev a little faster, gonna try to drive it tomorow,
          Thanks,

sweet! you'll enjoy it! i hear it sounds awesome with an idle between 700-800 rpm.

yup that's my next ticket start tuning it with an idle in drive around 850rpm's, seems to run real well and rev alot faster then the 260cam!

It'll sound good around 900-1000.. that's about where you'll want to keep it so that there is plenty of vacuum for the brakes at idle.

You can bump up the spark timing at idle a few degrees, that'll make it idle a bit meaner..
