  • Scratch that Here it is *pistons please

So I scratched the last build (high compression bored .060) basically cause I am loosing my job, both me and my girl, we work at the same place and been there along time, but there sold the land to developers! Spending a quoted $3800 on a stage 3 kit from milzy is out of the question now.

    I baught a stock engine from a 2002 Aztek with 15K miles.
Will this engine drop right in?.............. I hope so, lol, no seriously will it?

I have read you can just swap out the 3.4 DOHC pistons to get a higher compression
What year and what models of pistons should I be looking at to buy. I found these.

Wil they work, and anyone know the compression increase?

I dont like the power of a stock GA 3400

    So far i have.......
    The other guy headers
    Brola cat back
    Comp Cam valve springs
    Milzy push Rods
    65 RSM throttlebody
Ported upper and lower intake plenums
    28lb injectors
    taylor 8mm spark plug wires

    I want
DOHC pistons for a bit higher compression for some thump
And a stage 2 or stage 1 cam from here with stock heads

So what pistons am I looking for? anyone have some for sale?

You can use Camaro 3.4 piston as well for higher compression, that's what I'm using.

They'll be for sale in a few months when I boost the engine again

What will the new CR be on a 3400 with 3.4 DOHC pistons?
What about the CR on a 3400 with 3.4 camaro pistons??

93-94 3.4l camaro pistons. The DOHC ones are really high ratio IIRC. The camaro ones are a bit more reasonable.

you cant just drop the camaro pistons in and forget about them youll end up with a 13.1.1 CR with stock 3400 heads and head gaskets.

if you use 3500 head it brings it down to 11.5.1. i was looking into using the ironhead pistons in my build but didnt really nail down a combo that would work good.

You're right! I re-read the first post and realized John's using 3400 heads.

The ratio isn't changed that drastically. Camaro pistons are 8cc, DOHC's are 5cc IIRC.

Stock is the only thing that will drop in. Custom is the only other way to go if you want to change compression correctly. Using either ironhead 3.4 or DOHC pistons gives you poor quench and ultra high compression without 3500 heads.

I wanted to do this as well, and as geldartb found, there isnt a good combination of parts to use. What I ended up doing, is getting custom pistons made.

Quench is poor with either gaskets, really. The Camaro pistons have a .0095" deck height and come with .040" gaskets making a .0305" quench. .060" gaskets makes .0505". There are .045" gaskets available I believe, though, they would be perfect.

Yes, very hight compression with 3400 heads vs 3500 heads *but* you can turn the 3400 combustion chambers into 3500 chambers with a little patience
