soon here I'm am going to build an AE86 corolla for one of my friends and to be different I'm going to use a 3400 with about a 60-65 mm turbo looking for about 450-475hp. I know the crank holds about 400hp but he says he knows a guy that forge a crank for him I'm kinda iffy on the idea but if he can its his money. I told him 400hp is excessive in his corolla for drifting, these thing can drift like mother f*cker with a hopped up 4GE ( or something like that) thats puts out 150hp with 14lbs. of boost, but he wants to go nuts and anti-rice

the 3400 crank (981 casting) will hold more than 400 HP.. Even though it's a cast unit it should hold 500-600.. maybe more.

Yeah focus on rods and pistons first. SBC rods machined to fit and custom forged pistons.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

I knew about to rods and I have a couple of sets just laying around from my 327s, but who makes a fair priced custom set of pistons last time I had a set made it cost me an arm and a leg68 El camino 454 speed muncie 3.90 posi 12 bolt,

anything over 300HP get a double roller made, reinforce the cam gear, and check your timing chain often if you cant get a double roller. Dont rev more than 6800 K if you havent inforced the cam gear or got a double roller cause the RPM change is too much for it to handle it will just snap The block itself is great I had mine bored .040 over with absalutely no problems*from experience

well I paid about $1200 for a set of 12:1 AMC 401 pistons a few years back. but to add insult to injury they started to mass produce just recently I forget who though, bastards!
as for the timing set that was a given I never use the stock type even in a stock rebuild unless they excessively expensive. but thanks for the advice.
we're going to the junk yard where we have already scouted some 3400 either this weekend or next to pick up one and start working on the insane corollaLast edited by latemodelnewbee; 02-28-2008, 05:29 AM.68 El camino 454 speed muncie 3.90 posi 12 bolt,
