  • 3500 fiero road worthy again

but i think its got a bent valve....gonna find out this week what it is. Its making a consistant tapping and goes with the rpm. doesnt get louder or softer. doesn't sound horrible, comes from the valve cover area. and i have a consistant slight miss to go along with it.

oil pressure gauge went ape shit, its either zero at key on, and 80psi at run....wtf?

still running rich as shit. gonna have the injectors flowed while the heads are off.

it doesnt rev as fast and cranks slower, which makes me think i definantly had a compression issue on the last engine

ive got some 3500 heads and an upper intake for sale now, pm me if you want to get on it before it hits the sale forum...

So this is a new engine and you might have a bad valve? eeek no good luck.

What's the fuel rail pressure running at? That fuel issue makes me nervous.

Maybe a compression test would be a good approach before pulling the heads. What kind of inspection of the engine did you do before install? Please tell me you pulled the oil pan and looked at a bearing or two. I've looked at the video of your test drives and I still say your car appeared to be much faster than AJs northstar car on the Fiero Forum. I know from personal experience that headlight doors pop open right around 124 MPH at least in my car and your video seemed to show you reach that point pretty quick.

For the oil pressure issue, it sounds like you have the sensor for the dummy light (short) instead of the sensor for the gauge (long).

My fiero does it around 110 but my car is lowerd so the pressure is higher.

its the heads off the last engine, 2 valves met the pistons...I knew about it, just didn't leak during my tests.

yes I checked the botom end. flushed out the pan an cleaned the pickup tube. put my cam n there, primed the block....blah blah.........remember this is the 6th engine in this car.....I've got the routine down pretty good

same oil pressure sensor I've always had. its the monster one from the fiero. I think it had its day when the engine blew

Yeah, that's a Fiero thing, my gauge swings like that also, it registers about 45 psi on cold startup with the 3900 and that just can't be right at least I hope not, and sometimes it goes over to about 80 psi, if the oil light comes on you know it's not a test.

The brand new turbo started smoking a little on high revs indicating high oil pressure, the used turbo on the front bank smoked right away so I was sure it was the pressure when the problem gradually involved the new turbo with better seals. I added a central oil feed restrictor and the new turbo stopped smoking all together. I plan on checking it with another gauge to make sure.

You've got to turbocharge that engine and make a mess of those 3800SC owners.

Someone I think onefastv6 had some 3500 valves for sale on here. Grab those and hopefully you're set! (other than figuring out the fuel issue)

A bad sensor will behave like that. Get the newer style one from an 88 Fiero 2.5L. They seem to be more reliable. They're also smaller. The connector is different but they're easy to find at the junkard.

ive got some valves here, from the engine i just got.

ill look around for another gauge and sender...just a lil cya for me... ive had 4 rod bearing failures out of the 6 engines ive had...i dont want any more oil pressure issues.

anyone think moly lube for breaking in cams could have caused all my bearing failures??? i always flushed it after 45mins of run time. thats been the only common factor in all my engines....

anyways, should be up this week. as for a turbo....ehh dunno yet. gotta find a turbo that will work and what to do about the ecm, chip, etc etc. i work at a muffler shop so that shouldnt be a prob to fabricate it on there. im gonna get the n/a setup going good first, then work on a turbo one i get some sort of money coming my way,

I use the red Clevette stuff.. i've got the white lithium that Comp recommends also a big tube of black/grey stuff that i got from the parts store.. but the red stuff always seems to work well.
